TIRANA, Feb 14 (ATA) - Today's press highlights a brief commentary of the Albanian prime minister Fatos Nano on Friday on the main events in the Albanian politics this week, after a meeting in the Palace of Congresses on the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Science.

The Albanian prime minister Nano seemed pessimistic in face of a possible meeting with its opponent, Sali Berisha, which according to analysts, could have changed the direction of political development in Albania. This is how the daily Koha Jone reports on this meeting under the title "Meeting with Berisha does change nothing."

It also publishes the responses Nano gave to three questions of journalists. "I continue to be, with my ministers, more motivated in the work and the results are becoming evident," replied Nano to a question whether he is satisfied of the work of his cabinet. Asked about a report of the Ngjela commission to parliament, the Albanian prime minister said: "I am quietly waiting, for every commission to carry out its task and, though the commission was set another deadline, I am convinced that the institutions can cooperate. Asked about a possible meeting with Berisha, Nano replied: "You think that the meeting of Muji and Halili will raise the blockage in the Albanian policy?", the daily Koha Jone says.

"Nano is not going to meet Sali Berisha," is the title of the article carried by the daily Gazeta Shqiptare, which says that the leader of the Socialist party is not optimistic for the meeting, at a time when Meidani is expected to make public the invitation.

The daily Shekulli says in the title "Nano refuses the invitation to debate," while Dita Informacion after underlining that "Meeting of Muji and Halili is in vain," quotes Gjinushi as saying "Berisha cannot be corrected in that age," and Godo "It is good to be tried."

On the same topic, Albania carries an article "Nano refuses debate with Berisha." s.sh/ak/

The second day of the official visit of president of the Republic Rexhep Meidani moved from Ankara to Istanbul, is covered by some of today's newspapers.

"In Istanbul, president Meidani will start his series of meetings with a ceremony organised by the Technical University, when he was awarded the high academic prize "Doctor Honouris Causa", the daily Zeri i Popullit says.

"It is time that humanity should make moral economy its own," the Albanian president said in his address after the award.

Later, he met with a large group of Turkish businessmen, with the Albanian president explained them the advantages created and be created to foreign businessmen. He invited Turkish bussinesmen to be present with their activity in the process of privatisation of strategic sectors through concessions, direct finances to construct the Albanian infrastructure.

In a meeting with representatives of the Albanian community in Turkey, Meidani called on all the political class to "work, free of partitisms, for the solution of the national issue."

Dita Informacion in its article "President ends Turkey visit," analyses Meidani's busy agenda in this friendly country and says "with this visit Albania and Turkey mark a step forward in their bilateral relations."

"Three Turkish days of the president Meidani," is the title of the article carried by Shekulli which echoes the visit focusing on the tete-a- tete meeting with his Turkish counterpart Sulejman Demirel.

Rilindja Demokratike carries an article on this visit entitled "President Meidani, the lonely of Rinas." s.sh/ak/

    Press review

The daily Koha Jone covers the reaction of the minister of Finances Malaj to an accusation the Democrat leader made in a news conference against him, Brokaj and Gjinushi.

Arben Malaj decided on Friday to bring a law suit against Berisha, the same paper says, adding that after the charge of the Democrat leader, who said that Malaj, Brokaj and Gjinushi have drowned over 80 people in the Otranto channel, the Finance minister has decided to resolve this problem.

Reacting immediately against the charge, the paper says, the Vlora minister has said: "There is a link between the results of the pyramid schemes and the criminal activity of Berisha's clan."

Malaj has said: "I will bring a law suit early on Monday, when I have the tape recorder of Berisha's news conference."

He said that "on Monday I will bring a law suit against Berisha with the charge of slander out of duty, there is no immunity. None can play with the dead, the law should act now."

In an article "Berisha accuses others for his crimes," the daily Zeri i Popullit says that after Berisha's charge not only Malaj but also Gjinushi, Fino and Brokaj have reacted. It quotes each of them saying, Gjinushi: "Foresti has decided to speak"; Fino "I saved him ..., Berisha should thank us all;" Brokaj "I will examine Berisha psychically" and Malaj "Berisha, greatest criminal in history." s.sh/ak/

[02] Plan to achieve stability, neighbourliness in Southeastern Europe

TIRANA, Feb 13 (ATA) - By A. Haxhiu: Creation of possibilities for a wider cooperation between member countries of the Pact of Stability and good neighbourliness in the South eastern Europe, a cooperation which will be based on an action plan initiated by the European Union and backed by the regional member countries, were in the focus of a meeting on Friday between the Albanian Secretary of State for Euroatlantic Integration Maqo Lakrori and the E.U. pact coordinator, Panaijiotis Rumeliotis.

Sources of the Albanian Foreign Ministry said that Rumeliotis was especially interested in Albania's relations with the neighbouring countries in the region and ways how to overcome obstacles, which bring about conflict, such as that of Kosova.

Lakrori, on his part, explained the E.U. coordinator the efforts of the Albanian government to normalise the life and follow a policy of good neighbourliness with all the regional countries.

They spoke of including non-governmental organisations in the pact of stability and good neighbourliness in the South eastern Europe and stimulating their activity in such fields as culture, science, education, media.

Rumeliotis assured support in a series of initiative by the international organisation he runs. ake/das/ak/
