TIRANE, DEC 25 (ATA) - K Shehu: About 300 000 workers throughout Albania are threatened by poisonous powders and toxic substances, is this the alarm of Albanian Consumer Association, based on reports it has recently received from consumers' groups and branches in some districts.

"There are scores of cases of workers who have been hospitalized with direct consequences from unsafe working conditions, lack of safety measures in the place of work in which there are toxic substances and the worst thing is their continuous and repeated intoxication," said the President of the Association Islam Cani.

Referring to safety measures for the workers, according to the same source, over 80 per cent of the owners of factories, workshops and various enterprises, have adopted none of such measures.

The eagerness for profits makes them be indifferent to the question of the safety and protection of the workers, especially of toxic material.

The Association appeals to all owners of enterprises to secure their workers conformed to scientific criteria and legal demands as well as to respective state structures, labour inspectorates not to tolerate any abuse with the health and life of the workers. kei/xh/k
