  • [01] REPRESENTATIVES OF POLICE IN SOUTHERN DISTRICTS OF ALBANIA MEET WITH THEIR GREEK COUNTERPARTS

    SARANDE, NOV 10 (ATA) - By Sh Hajno: Representatives of police commissariats in the districts of Sarande, Delvine and Gjirokaster met on Sunday in Corfu with their Greek counterparts.

    The chief of public order in police commissariat of Sarande, Perparim Xhaferri told ATA that in the center of the talks with most senior representatives were the prevention of illegal traffic, mainly through the sea, the drugs and arms trafficking, movement of criminals on both sides of the border, etc.

    The Greek party voiced its readiness to assist the police in Saranda with the necessary means so that their situation improves.

    According to Xhaferri, another meeting will be held in the border point of Kakavije between representatives of police of these districts of Albania and the region of Northern Greece.

    These meetings are following the two-day meeting held in Ioannina between Albanian Interior Minister Ceka and his Greek counterpart, Romeos. ssh/kled/xh/sh/

    [02] ITALIAN AID FOR ALBANIAN ARMY ARRIVES IN DURRES

    DURRES, NOV.10 (ATA)-By G.Kabashi, Another shipment of aid to restructure the Albanian army, based on the agreement between the Abanian and Italian governments, arrived in Durres on Monday morning.

    The representative of the Italian experts' deleation, Pier Luigi Praceti, told ATA that the "The Italian navy transport ships "Capri" and "Lipari", of the 28th Maritime group, deployed in Durres port, landed this morning 22 motorcycles for the Albanian military police and six vehicles for the order police".

    Also, five containers include 600 beds and 1.500 mattress for two infantry regiments. a.ke/lm/sh/

    [05] PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY PRESIDENCY MEETS

    TIRANE, NOV 10 (ATA) - The chairman of the Presidency of the People's Assembly, Skender Gjinushi had a meeting with the Presidency of the People's Assembly to discuss the intensification of the relations with European political institutions and the inter-parliamentary relations.

    Gjinushi attracted the attention for a high efficiency of the meetings with leaders of the political groups of the Council of Europe to be held from Nov.19-20, and of the seminar on the regulation of the People's Assembly to be held on November 21, 1997. Attending the seminar will also be the chairmen of the political groups of the Council of Europe. Gjinushi highlighted the visit to Tirana from November 25-27 of the delegations of the French Parliament and of German Bundestag and the delegations of the European Parliament for the Southeastern Europe. ake/pas/xh/

    [06] TIRANA, PRISHTINA RESOLUTE FOR INSTITUTIONALISATION OF CONTACTS

    TIRANA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi: Both Albania and Kosova favour the institutionalization of contacts, as well as for a coordination of actions to the help of the Kosova requests in the international arena. This was the declaration of the press director in the Foreign Ministry, Sokol Gjoka, during the weekly news conference on Monday.

    The Albanian government is resolute to exert pressure on Belgrade for the realization of accords, said Gjoka, referring to the agreement on education signed last year by Rugova and Milosevic, with the mediation of the San Egidio community.

    With regard to the meeting Nano-Milosevic, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the Albanian government "is finding new ways which lead to the solution of the Albanian question." He considered the meeting "as a new step, where the parties put forward their versions and talked about the ways of their solution."

    Gjoka said that the results can be not expected so soon from such a meeting, and the meeting should be considered as an approach between both countries, Albania's priority is the solution of the Kosova issue.

    With regard to the fog created by the press on what is being talked between Tirana and Belgrade, Gjoka quoted Nano as saying that "he upholds the thesis of national union."

    He said that Prishtina and Tirana favour frequent contacts necessary not only to exchange information, but also to defend the Albanian issue in the international arena. /a.ke/pas/mt/k

    [07] DIASPORA CONVENES IN GERMANY TO SET UP ALBANIAN LEAGUE

    TIRANA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - By E. Allushi: Representatives of Diaspora and of the Institute of Diaspora in the Albanian Foreign Ministry, in the framework of the conduct of the Pan-national Assembly in Tirana, held a meeting in Munich of Germany, making the first steps for the establishment of the Albanian League.

    The setting up of closer ties among Albanians wherever they are and the consolidation of cooperation with the Institute of Diaspora, were in the focus of the above meeting.

    Chairwoman of the Initiating Council for the establishment of the Albania League is Nermin Vlora Falaski, niece of Ismail Qemali, who proclaimed Albania's independence on November 28, 1912 in Vlora.

    President Rexhep Meidani is initiator of the Pan-national Assembly to be held in Tirana. /s.sh/kei/mt/k

    [09] IMF TO ACCORD AN EMERGENCY AID TO ALBANIA

    TIRANA, NOV 10 (ATA) - The executive board of the International Monetary Fund has approved on Friday a program of emergency aid for Albania for a six-month period.

    Albania's Prime Minister Fatos Nano informed his cabinet on Monday at the start of a routine meeting for this aid, which is estimated at $12 million. The IMF usually accords it to post conflict countries. ak/

    [10] ALBANIAN TELECOM AND INTRACOM SING CONTRACT WORTH $390 000

    TIRANA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - L. Thanasi: An agreement worth $390 000 was signed Friday in Greece between the Albanian Telecom and the Greek Intracom. The agreement envisages buying of radio - relay equipment to connect twelve Albanian districts with telephone.

    The Director General of TELECOM, Dhimitraq Rafti, signed several days ago a similar contract with the Italian Italtel worth 510 000 dollars. /kei/mt/k

    [11] ALBANIAN GOVERNMENT ACCEPTS CREDIT WORTH $5.2 MILLION BY ISLAMIC BANK OF DEVELOPMENT

    TIRANA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - The Albanian government ratified on Monday the draft-law to receive a credit worth 5.2 million dollars from the Islamic Bank of Development.

    This credit will be injected to the irrigation project of Fushe- Korce.

    Some 7 000 hectares of land will be irrigated after the realisation of a project worth 6.47 million dollars, of which 1.27 million dollars will be afforded by the Albanian government itself. /kei/mt/k

    [12] FERROUS CHROMIUM REENTERS INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

    TIRANA, NOV 10 (ATA) - By N.Mano: Albkrom foresees to increase the production of ferrous chromium for 1998 to 10,000 tons more than 1997, Albkrom marketing specialist Besnik Bala said to ATA on Monday.

    So far, some 25,000 tons of ferrous chromium have been sold in the foreign market for 1997.

    A 2 percent price increase per liber in the foreign market can bring about best foreign currency income in the fourth three-month period in comparison to what was secured all over the year.

    1995 was recorded as the best year for the production of ferrous chromium with 43 thousand tons, while the production for '96 was recorded at 31.2 thousand tons. kei/ak/k
