  • [01] ITALY READY TO HELP ALBANIAN PENITENTIARY INSTITUTIONS

    TIRANE, OCT. 5 (ATA)- Italy is ready to help Albanian penitentiary institutions. This was confirmed at a recent meeting in Italy of the Albanian Prisons's Director General, colonel Dalip Zhaboli, with Italian Minister of Amnesty and Justice, Giovani Marin Flik.

    Mr. Flik expressed his and the Italian government's readiness to help the Albanian penitentiary institutions with all possbile means.

    Zhaboli and his delegation had numerous meetings with authorities of penitentiary police institutions and bodies. s.sh/jz/lm/Z

    [02] WHOLE ALBANIAN TERRITORY UNDER POLICE CONTROL - minister

    TIRANE, OCT 5 (ATA)- By Th. Thanasi, The whole Albanian territory has been put under police control and bands in major cities of Albania have been neutralised, Interior Minister Neritan Ceka told a joint news conference with WEU Secretary General Jose Cutileiro on Saturday.

    The task of the Albanian police during August was collection of heavy armaments, which was considerably realised by the end of September.

    "Less than one tenth of the weapons has been collected but you should be sure we have avoided over nine tenth of the danger they pose," Ceka said. a.ke/jz/lm /Z

    [03] ARREST ORDER ISSUED AGAINST MYRTEZA CAUSHI

    TIRANE, OCT. 5 (ATA)-By M. Hodo, The Tirane court issued the arrest order against Myrteza Caushi on Saturday. Caushi is charged with premeditated killing, illegal possession of weapons, creation of armed gangs and actions committed by the armed gangs.

    The charges were rejected by the defendant and his defence attorney, Gazmend Zeneli, who asked that the ruling of the prosecutor's office be changed as the legal time frame of issuing it has expired. But this request was not considered by the court's jury.

    Myrteza Caushi, 26, known as Zani, who had been sentenced in Greece to 101 years imprisonment, created in March of this year his gang in the "Cole" quarter of the Vlore city.

    For more than five months he has committed various crimes in the wave of protests, at the head of the gang.

    The Albanian press had put forth many hypotheses regarding his being or not in Albania. Caushi was recently arrested by police in the Vlore city. jz/lm/z

    [04] PRESS REVIEW

    TIRANE, OCT. 5 (ATA)-Today's Zeri i Popullit covers the third congress of the Albanian Euro-socialist Youth Forum (FRESH) under the title: "Alternative of emancipation in Albanian politics'.

    The paper carries the greetings of Prime Minister Fatos Nano and President Rexhep Meidani to this congress as well as the speech of the leader of this organisation, Ilir Meta.

    The speech says that FRESH is partner of the new reformation policy.

    The paper carries the articles: "Dangerous gang in Sarande caught" and "High Council of Justice discharges chairman of the Tirane Court". It also reports on several criminal police officers of Shkoder who carried out an attack on the city's police commissariat last night.

    Rilindja Demokratike comments the event in the Shkoder Commissariat under the title:"Revolt breaks out in Shkoder". Policemen oppose the return of former Sigurimi officers to the public order structures", the paper says.

    The paper carries the greeting of DP leader Sali Berisha on the opening of a European Union office in Prishtine. It covers the congress of FRESH yesterday under the title:"The Nano Government, a government of contraband". The paper reports on the continuation of the DP peaceful protests in Tirane.

    It carries an article which says that the idea of Prime Minister Nano on Albania's position towards the Balkans is a populist idea. The paper reports on the legal process against Caushi. "Zani has received these charges with smiles" the paper says.

    Republika carries the editorial entitled: "Nationalism facing crisis". The paper covers the trial against "Zani" under the title:"Zani: I am not a bandit, but I am anti-Berisha". The paper carries the article: Kosova between peace and war".

    Demokracia, of the Human Right Union Party, carries the article: "CE: Albania needs assistance, national reconciliation and a wider political consensus".

    Koha Jone reports in its editorial on several factors, which, according to it, are violating the authority of the state. The paper covers yesterday's congress of euro-socialists under the title: Prime Minister Nano and FRESH leader shake hands".

    The paper runs the article;"Nano's economic reform good in appearance and scary in content". The paper carries the article: "Through the disorder of the Albanian politics" - an analysis of the latest political events. The paper also carries an interview with the VEFA president, V. Alimuca, entitled:"Nano cannot root VEFA out".

    Albania carries the article:"Nano installs dictatorship". The paper carries the article:"Shkoder under revolt". Another article says that today is the 117th day since Nano 's promise to reimburse the money. The paper carries the article:"President Meidani cleanses the Tirane court".

    Dita Informacion carries the article:"VEFA does not reimburse money". "Meta will surely be elected FRESH leader", the paper says regarding the euro-socialists' congress.

    Gazeta Shqiptare carries the article: "Uprising of policemen breaks out", regarding yesterday's events in the Shkoder commissariat. jz/lm/Z

    [05] ALBANIAN CHESS CHAMPION RANKS WORLD'S FIFTH FOR UP TO 18 OF AGE

    DURRES, OCT.5 (ATA)-By S. Gjordeni, The Albanian champion in chess, Erald Dervishi, occupied the fifth place in the World Chess Championship for up to 18 years old which was held from September 22 to October 2 in Erevan of Armenia.

    The Albanian chess player had six wins, three draws and two losses.

    The last tournament confronted two International Masters, the champion of Ukraine, Ponomarjov Rusian, and the Albanian champion, Erald Dervishi. He who would win this match would be declared world champion, while the draw would make Rusian a champion and rank Dervishi the third.

    After losing this match, in the final classification, Erald Dervishi ranked the world's fifth with 7,5 points, as much as the fourth place won.

    Out of the four Albania's International chess masters, three are from Durres and precisely Fatos Muco, Altin Cela and Erald Dervishi. a.ke/pas/lm

    [06] TNT BLOWS UP HIGH TENSION LINE IN GJIROKASTER-BISTRICE

    TIRANE, OCT.5 (ATA)- TNT, placed on Saturday on the high tension line, which supplies with electricity the districts of Gjirokaster, Permet, Sarande, Delvine and Memaliaj, South of Albania, blew up the Gjirokaster-Bistrice 110 KW tension line, the director General of the Albanian Electricity Corporation, Engjell Cuci.

    As result of the bad weather accompanied by storms, other high tension lines have broken down, thus interrupting the supply with electricity of consumers in central and Northern Albania, in the districts of Kurbin, Elbasan, Shkoder and other districts. a/ke/pas/lm

    [07] FIFTY-TWO ALBANIANS RETURNED FROM ITALY ON SATURDAY

    DURRES, OCT. 5 (ATA)- By G. Kabashi, Another 52 Albanians, who have been staying in Italy illegally for several months, were returned to Durres port on Saturday by Italian police authorities.

    Over the last week the number of the repatriated from Italy has not exceeded 250, which makes up a substantial decrease as opposed to the 3.000 Albanians returned during September. a.ke/pas/lm

    [08] ILIR META REELECTED CHAIRMAN OF EURO-SOCIALIST YOUTH FORUM

    TIRANE, OCT. 5 (ATA)-Ilir Meta was reelected today chairman of the Albanian Euro-socialist Youth Forum (FRESH) by 409 votes for, out of 500 voters.

    Meta, one of the founders of this Forum, is a SP deputy. pas/lm

    [09] KOSOVA BOYCOTTS ELECTIONS FOR SERBIA'S PRESIDENT

    PRISHTINE, OCT. 5 (ATA)- By B. Jashari, Kosova boycotted today also the second round of elections for Serbia's president.

    Over two million Kosova Albanians, who make up over 90 per cent of the population, did not take part in the elections, considering them "elections of another state".

    The two candidates for president, in the runoff vote today, socialist Zoran Lilic and radical Vojislav Seselj, have declared in the election campaign that "the Kosova problem does not exist".

    Both of them have threatened that they will deport the Kosova Albanians to Albania. fh/pas/lm
