NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The are intentions of some international factors to divide Republika Srpska (RS) into its Eastern and Western parts, but which cannot exist without each other, stated the President in the B-H Presidency from RS, Momcilo Krajisnik, last night at the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Municipal Board for Piskavci, near Banjaluka. Krajisnik stated that the Serbian people now want to persevere its state and freedom which are the SDS' basic principles as well. "The results of this war are that the Serbs became aware its national identity and unity, and that is why some factors want to split us", Krajisnik stated, adding that the serbs would do nothing against B-H as envisioned in Dayton, but that they would not yield their independence.

BEOGRAD - RS division is out of question, stated RS president Biljana Plavsic for Belgrade's TV "Studio B". "There will be no split of RS because the USA would not allow it. RS split into its Eastern and Western parts would mean the violation of the Dayton agreement which insists territorial integrity of RS and B- Federation", she underlined.

BANJALUKA - Artificial regional-level antagonisms are being generated throughout RS, and not only between Pale and Banjaluka, with a recognisable aim at splitting our Republic through its paramount institution - National Assembly - believes the RS National Assembly president Dragan Kalinic. He said that the National Assembly was attacked by hostile elements, merely because the SDS - steadfast to preserve RS - is its major party. According to him, resignations in some SDS municipal boards are to be attributed to an healthy and unavoidable process of SDS upgrading from a national movement to a modern political party.

BANJALUKA - The US envoy for the former Yugoslavia, Robert Galbard, stated that the RS president Biljana Plavsic promised to do everything to implement the Dayton agreement and make the return of refugees possible. In his last night's statement for Radio "Free Europe", Galbard said Mrs. Plavsic supported the programme of return of Muslim refugees to Sipovo, a part of the "Open Cities" project, which had been contended by RS leaders.

BRCKO - Supervisor for Brcko, Robert Farrand, will meet a delegation of Serb refugee families living in the bordering area of Brod, near Brcko, where on August 22, 120 Muslims attempted an inroad. Farrand is supposed to consider the same issue with the presidents of Serb, Croat and Muslim municipality of Brcko.

PARIS - A well-known Russian writer, Aleksandar Solzhenitsyn believes that the responsibility for bloody Yugoslav tragedy is on "communist clique of Josip Broz-Tito and companionship of leaders of the main world powers". "Broz drew borders totally slurring over a term of ethnicity and resorting to the populace transfer, while the world leaders rushed to within 24 or 48 hours recognise the independence of a number of secessionist territories", he stated in an interview for the Paris weekly "Express".

SARAJEVO - The SRT general manager, Miroslav Toholj, reproached high representative Carols Westendorp for "exceeding the Dayton agreement framework" by his acts and public statements. In his letter of August 23, Toholj pointed out that the equal treatment of the entities cannot be even mentioned, because Westendorp now mainly refers to three peoples in unitary B-H.
