BRCKO - The Russian deputy foreign minister, Igor Yvanov, talked with the mayor of the Municipality of Brcko, representatives of the Croatian and Muslim authorities from Rahici and Ravana and the supervisor Robert Frowick, about the current situation in the city. The Russian president, Boris Yeltsin's special envoy to the former Yugoslavia, Yvanov, stated in a statement for the Serbian Press Agency - SRNA that the international supervision over the city has made 'a step forward in the implementing of the Dayton agreement and the arbitration decision on Brcko', but that 'the world does not expect a miracle to happen in these areas'.

SARAJEVO - The president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, gave Great Britain the credit for all it has done on the establishing of peace and an equal treatment between RS and the Federation of B&H (FB&H). After the talks with the newly-elected defence minister of Great Britain, George Robertson, Krajisnik thanked the British diplomat for his visit, as well as for a message of his government's saying that it will not change its previous policy.'Mainly, Great Britain's economic help was distributed to RS and the FB&H on an equal basis. I do hope that such a policy will be maintained in the future', said Krajisnik, expressing his hope that the British soldiers will carry out their mandate successfully and return to their country.

BANJALUKA - RS prime minister Gojko Klickovic, announced in Banjaluka that the construction works on the building of the Bijeljina-Samac railway long some 77,5 km are to start on June 10. The construction of the railway is of a strategic importance for RS and, especially, for its western part, pointed out Klickovic, who is also the head of the Republic Staff for the constructing of the Bijeljina-Samac railway, at a meeting held in Banjaluka with representatives of the Executive Boards of the two municipalities.

SARAJEVO - The Provisional Electoral Commission (PEC) made a decision on the final deadline for the submitting of the lists of political parties and coalitions which are to run for at the local elections in B&H to be prolonged by May 27. The judge of the RS Constitutional Court and member of the PEC, Slobodan Kovac, stated that a question was posed at a meeting of the Commission about the citizens who will not be 18 years old at the time of the deadline for the voters registration, but who will be of a legal age by the holding of the elections. 'The PEC's answer and attitude are that even such persons will be able to register themselves during the deadline', explained Kovac.

SARAJEVO - Neither the British Government is going to participate in the 'Equip and Train' programme, nor to supply the FB&H with arms, all until there are British troops in the composition of SFOR, stated the British defence minister, George Robertson at a news conference in Sarajevo. Robertson also expressed his pleasure with the intention of the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, to participate at the Donors' Conference, saying that it is an important step forward.

WASHINGTON - The US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, is going to visit Sarajevo on May 31, in order to pressure all the signers of the Dayton agreement to stick to its provisions, reports Reuters. While announcing Albright's visit to Sarajevo, the State Department spokesman, Nicholas Burns, stated that 'there is concern' that the parties to the agreement, which was signed with the mediating of US, 'are not fulfilling their obligations'.
