NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The vice-premier of the Republika Srpska (RS) Government, Velibor Ostojic, and Serbian education minister, Jovo Todorovic, signed the Agreement and Protocol on cooperation between the two republics in the education system.

SARAJEVO - Deputy high representative Michael Steiner, assessed that the Dayton agreement was in deep crisis, but said those seeking new solutions were not right. "Dayton is in a deep crisis, but yet it has no alternative", stated Steiner in an interview for the Muslim paper "Dnevni Avaz".

BANJALUKA - In the Banjaluka's military barracks "Kozara", the 101st Armoured Brigade of the RS Army First Corps celebrated its holiday.

SARAJEVO - US spokesman Alexander Ivanko stated at a press conference in Lukavica that "attacks on Serbs and their property in Drvar is nothing else but intimidation of those who are to return to the city". Ivanko appealed Federal authorities to provide security to all residents of Drvar, the Serbs, Croats and Muslims.

BANJALUKA - The Criminal Committee of the District Court in Banjaluka confirmed the death penalty to Jovan Jelic from Kljuc, for murder and revenge against twelve-year old boy Mladen Dvizac from the same city, thus reaffirming Novermber 17 Decision of the Main Court in Banjaluka. The murder occurred in January 1995, when Jelic, after became suspicious of his wife having intimate relations with boy's father Nedeljko Dvizac, killed the boy.

SARAJEVO - The UN special rapporteur for human rights, Elizabeth Rehn, stated that the human rights are massively being violated in the Federation, including mass dislodgement and restrictions of freedom of movement. In an interview for Muslim "Oslobodjenje" Rehn referred to a very difficult position of Federal media which, strongly influenced by ruling structures, are nor accessible for information coming from the other entity.

SARAJEVO - The president of the Bosniak-Liberal Party (LBO) Muhamed Filipovic, stated in Sarajevo that recent inter-party agreement on constituting the city of Sarajevo "is in contravention of democratic rule and the residents' will". He said that the agreement"directly violated the legitimacy of old democratically elected institutions, authorised by the City Assembly".

SARAJEVO - The members of the SDA Executive Board in the Herzegovna-Neretva Canton, held an extraordinary session regarding the rejection by Croat authorities in Mostar of the formation of joint police patrols for the district area. "We are very concerned over the rejection by the Croat party of setting up the joint police forces in the city district, for it could mean the first move towards the formation of cantonal police, the deadline for which is April 15 this year", reads an announcement issued after the meeting.
