FEB. 3, 1997 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The minister of information of Republika Srpska (RS), Svetlana Siljegovic, denied the report of the Greek paper "Elephterostipos", which issued a purported interview with Dr Radovan Karadzic. "Inasmuch Radovan Karadzic transferred all his authorisations to Biljana Plavsic on June 30, 1996, he has not said anything in public or authorised anyone to air any positions on his behalf since, especially those opposed to official Serb policy, characterised by the full respect of the Dayton agreement", stated minister Siljegovic.

SARAJEVO - The co-chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Dayton B-H, Boro Bosic, and deputy RS foreign minister, Dragan Bozanic, talked in Pale with liaison officer of the UN secretary-general's special envoy, Geoffrey Beaumont.

ZVORNIK - The joint patrols of the Centre for Public Security in Zvornik and the international police forces proceeded with census in the village of Mahala, on the base of lists made available by the International Commission for Settling of Zones of Separation. There are 388 Muslims on the list for whom it should be found out whether they had lived in Mahala before the conflict.

BANJALUKA - The secretary-general of the RS Social-Liberal Party, Milan Tukic, stated in Banjaluka that the local elections in RS and the Federation, scheduled for June this year, would be neither democratic nor free, unless the PEC and IPTF remove all fallacies and prevent abuses witnessed in the previous elections. Tukic added that "the PEC and IPTF failed to properly organise the elections, so the ruling parties in the RS and the Federation would better organise the municipal elections".

SOKOLAC - Representatives of the Italian SFOR Brigade and the RS Army Fifth Corps Command met for the first time in Sokolac to talk on their future cooperation and issues within SFOR and Fifth Corps competence.

BRUSSELS - The World Congress of the Serbs sent an open letter to Roberts Owen, EU, UN and OSCE, as well as to Carl Bildt and chiefs of the Contact Group countries, pointing out that "the breach of the Dayton agreement - which agreement guarantees the RS territorial wholeness - is obvious". The World Congress of the Serbs says that "RS territory must remain compact, so no agreement, signed by anyone, cannot be verified if detrimental for the Serbs". BRATUNAC - The Ministry for refugees and Displaced Persons Bratunac Office announced that it is still uncertain whether the refugees from the collective centres would be accommodated in adequate residential buildings, since there are no appartments for them.
