SEPT. 29, 1996 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The elections were not the perfect ones, problems and irregularities occurred, as expected, but I think that one cannot say that the electoral process was fabricated, stated the chief of the OSCE Mission in the Dayton B-H, Robert Frowick, at a press conference held in Sarajevo.

SARAJEVO - In its reaction to the OSCE verification of the elections in the Dayton B-H, the Presidency of the Serbian Democratic Party for Serbian Lands (SDS SZ) issued a communique: "Following a extended delay in the official certifying the election results in Republika Srpska (RS) and the Federation of B-H, the OSCE finally announced the results fifteen days after the voting took part. An unusually long pause between the holding of the elections and the day of the official announcing of the results, the OSCE, unfortunately, used as a possibility for the completion of the list of breaches of its own electoral rules and regulations and for almost endless manipulations with voting ballots arriving from abroad. All this was done at the detriment of the Serbian people and at detriment of the SDS".

SARAJEVO - The OSCE chair, U.S. ambassador, Robert Frowick, assessed in Sarajevo that the elections have had "minor omissions", but that they did not significantly affect the final results. The Provisional Electoral Commission member from RS Slobodan Kovac stated that "the PEC was nothing else left to do but to verify the results of the first post-war elections in RS and the B-H Federation".

SARAJEVO - The certification of the electoral results in the Dayton B-H does not change the fact that they are holding a brand of a "great deceit", announced the international group of independent monitors. "It is about a political decision by OSCE, while the elections were mudded by a deceit which is hard to promote peace", stated Chris Bennet, the head of the International Crisis Group, the independent association observing the elections.

DOBOJ - The RS Commission for POW Exchange, discovered on the Mt. Ozren remains of seven Serb soldiers, killed in the area of Podcelovo, in June, 1995. The bodies were determined to belong to members of the Prnjavor Brigade. The bodies will be transferred to Banjaluka next week, where an examination on bodies will be carried out, together with the examination of 24 bodies of Srbac residents whose remains were discovered 20 days ago, also on the Mt. Ozren.

NICOSIA - On the first days of the official visit of His Holiness Patriarch of the Serbs, Pavle, and his associates to Cyprus, a service was held in the presence of the Cypriot Archbishop, Hrisostomos. During the service, the Archbishop delivered the highest spiritual decoration - the Golden Order of the founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, Apostle Vrnava - to the Patriarch of the Serbs.
