Symposium, of distinguished Greek scientists abroad, in the Biological sciences

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania is interested in submitting a proposal for the organisation of a "Symposium, of distinguished Greek scientists abroad, in the Biological sciences". To this end, we have initially undertaken the effort to develop a database of Greek Scientists abroad, which will also be helpful in forging links of communication between Greek Scientists around the world.

AIMS OF THE SYMPOSIUM

The basic goals of the proposed symposium will be:

1. the development of open lines of communication between scientists of the diaspora and Greek scientists and politicians in the area of biological sciences (i.e. biomedical research, plant science, biotechnology).
2. the exploration of prospects of co-operation between scientists abroad and Greek scientists.
3. An interdisciplinary presentation of the current state of research in some of the hottest areas of science and an open discussion as to the prospects of science in Greece.

As initial broad subject areas the following titles are proposed:

1. Gene regulation.
2. Cell cycle and cell biology.
3. Signal transduction networks.
4. Biology of Development
5. Biology of stress.
6. Cancer biology.
7. Biotechnology and applications.
