[33] THE INCIDENT AT THE TGNA BY YILMAZ OZTUNA (TURKIYE)

Columnist Yilmaz Oztuna writes on the incidents which took place at the TGNA last week. A summary of his column is as follows: "For the first time ever, a deputy died during the plenary session of the Parliament. The Chairman of a commission was harassed in his seat for the first time. The seats reserved for the commission and the podium of the TGNA speaker were surrounded. Threats were made. Fists replaced speeches. Similar incidents happen in all democracies. In other democracies, the parliaments have real immunity. In other countries, the closing of a parliament means the end of a state. In Turkey however, it has been closed twice. Today everyone's attention is focused on the TGNA. I can never think of someone carrying a gun, let alone bringing it into the halls of parliament. However excited a session becomes, commonsense should not be lost. " <_ul>
