    TUESDAY JULY 2, 1996

Summary of the political and economic news in the Turkish press this morning

[01] AGAR: "BOMB ATTACK DIRECTLY TARGETS ALL HUMAN BEINGS"

Interior Minister Mehmet Agar referring to Sunday's suicide bomb attack, which resulted in the death of six soldiers, said yesterday that the action directly targeted all human beings. A suicide bomber blew herself up in the attack at a military parade in the centre of the eastern province of Tunceli on Sunday afternoon. Six soldiers were killed and more than 30 people, mostly soldiers, were wounded.

In a statement to journalists, Agar said such attacks could not upset the morale of the security forces. He stressed that the field of operations of the separatist organization had narrowed. Agar added that it was impossible for the government to give any concession in its struggle against terrorism, that the struggle would continue to intensify and that the biggest support of the security forces was the nation. Agar later went to Elazig to attend the funeral of the six soldiers. Speaking at a ceremony at the local state hospital, Agar emphasized that those who had given suffering to the state would face the punishment they deserved.

Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Tansu Ciller released a message yesterday condemning the attack. Ciller said that the raid had indicated that terrorism was preparing to shed blood again. Ciller said that the complete neutralizing of terrorism, elimination of murderous gangs and ensuring the security of the people, was the government's primary aim. /All papers/
