[10] BANGADESHI PEOPLE ARE ADMIRERS OF ATATURK, FOUNDER OF MODERN TURKISH REPUBLIC

ANKARA/DHAKA, March 6 (A.A) - Bangladeshi people who helped Turkey during the Independence War by giving financial aid with all their facilities, by selling their bracelets and earrings, are admirers of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern Turkish Republic.

According to the impressions of A.A correspondent recorded within the framework of D-8 summit held in Dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh, between March 1-2, Bangladesh is willing to improve relations.

Turkey is defined as a ''contemporary, independent, European Islam country'' by Sheikh Hasine, Bangladeshi Prime Minister and all the Bangladeshis.

People of Bangladesh do not seek for a radical Islam although they adopt Islam. Within this framework, Turkey is shown as the target country which Bangladeshis want to reach.

Although they had been poor during the Independence War, Bangladeshi people sold all their valuable goods to help Turkey.

Admiration for Ataturk is in extreme dimensions that ''Mustafa Kemal'' is in the names of most of Bangladeshis. Some of the main roads have the name ''Ataturk''.

Financial aid sent by Bangladeshis, who founded Ataturk Highschool in 1939 under British administration, at the same time formed the capital of Turkish Is Bank.

Bangladesh had rich natural gas beds which wait for extraction. Officials say Bangladesh will be developed economically if these natural gas reserves are operated.

Meanwhile, Erdinc Olumlu, Turkey's Ambassador to Dhaka said Bangladeshi people wanted to watch Turkish television, adding that this country having 124-million people population will have more stronger ties with Turkey if this is realized.

Olumlu also said establishment of a joint Turkish-Bangladeshi foreign trade company will strengthen trade volume between the two countries.
