    ANKARA, Aug 15 (A.A) - Abdurrahman Toktas who was taken into custody with the accusation of being involved in the bomb attack on the US Embassy in Tanzania, was released, it was reported on Friday.

    The statement of the Foreign Ministry pointed out that Toktas, one of the 14 foreigners who were taken into custody in August 7, was detained because he had no passport during a routine inspection. Toktas was released on Thursday after Tanzanian police found out that he has no connection with the bomb attack.

    More than 200 people died and 5 thousand others were injured at the simultaneous bomb attacks on the US Embassy buildings in Kenya and Tanzania.

    [02] TURKEY AND GEORGIA SIGN COOPERATION PROTOCOL ON ENERGY - TURKEY TO PURCHASE ENERGY UP TO 100 MW FROM GEORGIA

    ANKARA, Aug 15 (A.A)- Turkey and Georgia signed the ''cooperation protocol on energy on Friday.

    The protocol was signed by Cumhur Ersumer, the Energy and Natural Sources Minister, and Teimuraz Giorgadze, Georgian Energy and Fuel Minister.

    Turkey will purchase additional electricity up to 100 MW monthly from Georgia through the state companies and via the Hopa-Batum enery transportation line of 220 KW, in accordance with the protocol. The amount of the electricity energy that Turkey can purchase from Georgia, therefore, will reach to 200 MW.

    Georgia will pay a part of her enery debt of 1.7 billion KW belonged to 1990-1996 period, within the scope of Energy Sale Agreement and within the framework of a plan that will be determined as of September 1, 1998.

    [03] SEPERATIST TERRORISTS KILL TWO VILLAGE GUARDS IN ARICAK - ONE TERRORIST KILLED IN HINIS

    ARICAK, Aug 15 (A.A) - Seperatist terrorists killed two temporary village guards in Arical County of Elazig Province, it was reported on Friday.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent that the temporary village guards clashed with the terrorists who tried to attack Osmanpinar village. Ali Guclu and Suphi Yildiz, the village guards, died during the clashes.

    Operations are underway in the region in order to capture the terrorists.

    Meanwhile one terrorist was killed during the operations launched by the security forces in Hinis County of Erzurum Province.

    Ahmet Kayhan, the Governor of Erzurum, pointed out that one soldier died and one soldier was injured during the clashes.

    [04] SECOND PHASE OF PEACE MOVEMENT BEING CELEBRATED IN THE TRNC - MARTYRS COMMEMORATED IN MURATAGA, SANDALLAR, ATLILAR AND SERDARLI - ATUN, SPEAKER OF TRNC PARLIAMENT: - ''THE TRNC WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE LIVES AND BLOODS OF MARTYRS''

    LEFKOSA (A.A) - The 24th anniversary of the second phase of the Peace Movement that began on 14 August 1974, is being celebrated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), it was reported on Friday.

    Martyrs who were massacred by the Greek Cypriots and were buried in mass graves in Murataga, Sandallar, Atlilar and Serdarlę Villages, were commemorated during the celebrations.

    Addressing the meeting, Hakki Atun, the Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, stressed that the TRNC was established on the lives and blodds of martyrs. He added, ''we stand on the earth as a honourable nation. The Turkish Cypriots are determined on maintaining the TRNC forever.''

    Pointing out that the Greek Cypriots have began to confess their cruelties against humanity they committed 24 years ago, Atun said, ''I think they have began to hear the voice of their conscience.''

    Atun called the Greek Cypriots to take lessons from the past and abandon their hostile attitudes.

    Hussein Arslanturk who addressed the celebrations in the name of the families of the martyrs, reminded that Greeks and the Greek Cypriots massacred innocent people and occupied 103 villages in order to realize Enosis.

    Pointing out that the European Union has accelerated its games on Cyprus, Arslanturk said, ''an air-base was established in Baf. They are still dreaming of realizing the Megali Idea with the Russian-made S-300 missiles. We hope that they will not attempt such a maddness.''

    Turkey began her second peace movement in the TRNC after the three guarantor countries, Turkey, Britain and Greece, couldn't reach an agreement at the peace negotiations in Geneva following the first Peace Movement on 20 July 1974.

    The Turkish troops captured Timbu, Meric and Serdarli on 14 August, Magosa on 15 August, and Mirtu, Guzelyurt and Lefke on 16 August. The cease-fire was declared at 6:00 p.m. on the same day in Cyprus.

    [05] 44 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAPTURED IN EDIRNE

    EDIRNE, Aug 15 (A.A) - The security forces captured on Saturday 44 illegal immigrants, 41 Iranians and 3 Iraqis, in Ipsala and Meric Counties of Edirne Province.

    Immigrants were taken under custody for the legal proceedings.

    [06] TURKEY IN BRIEF - AUGUST 15, 1998

    SANLIURFA - The 5th Anatolia Tour of the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra continues with the concerts in the Southeastern Anatolia region, it was reported on Friday.

    A great number of people watched the concert in Sanliurfa last night.

    Addressing the concert, Prof. Dr. Ersin Onay, the Dean of the Bilkent University Music and Theatrical Arts Faculty, said that they are very pleased with the Anatolian people who show great interest in the concerts.

    The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra had previously given concerts in Siirt, Batman, Mardin and Sirnak.

    A giant mobile stage is being used for the concerts.

    ANKARA - Ethiopian trade delegation led by Kassahun Ayele, the Industry and Trade Minister, will come to Turkey, it was reported on Friday.

    The statement of the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade pointed out that the members of the delegation will hold talks with Mehmet Batalli, the State Minister and Co-chairman of the Turkey-Ethiopia Joint Economic Commission on August 18.

    The meeting is expected to focus on the commercial and economic relations between the two countries, and cooperation opportinuties on trade and agriculture.

    Members of the Ethiopian delegation are also scheduled to meet with the officials of the Turkey Chambers and Stock Exchanges Union, Mineral Research and Administration Institute and Directorate General of the Iron and Steel Enterprises.

    The delegation will leave Turkey in August 21.

    ANTALYA - ''Antalya City Guidebook'98'' issued by the Antalya Promotion Foundation (ATAV), was introduced on Friday to the members of the press with a coctail party.

    Addressing the party, Ibrahim Gurdal, the Tourism Minister, said that the tourism potential of Turkey with her historical, natural and cultural assets, will make Turkey the star country of the 21st century.

    Gurdal pointed out that they aim to extend tourism into four seasons and 12 months with the slogan of ''Three seasons are spring and the one season is winter in Turkey.''

    The guidebook is issued in four languages and includes the city plan, regional maps, informations about historical and touristic places and other details in Antalya.

    [07] OIL-PROSPECTING ACTIVITIES IN GAP REGION - KARANCAK, DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF TPAO: - ''RAW OIL OF 47 THOUSAND BARRELS IS PRODUCED DAILY FROM 639 WELL IN THE REGION''

    GAZIANTEP, Aug 15 (A.A) - Mete Karancak, the Deputy Director General of Turkey Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), said on Saturday that raw oil of 47 thousand barrels is produced daily from the 639 wells in the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region.

    Responding to the questions of the A.A correspondent, Karancak noted that the TPAO aims at opening new oil-wells, and maintaining the geological and geophysical researches in order to increase the production in the region.

    Karancak stressed that the TPAO has reserved 9 trillion Turkish Liras, 55 percent of the investment spending programme of 16.3 trillion Turkish Liras of the TPAO for 1998. A total of 2.7 trillion Turkish Liras has been spent for the investments in the region in the first six month of 1998.

    Stressing the importance of the Southeastern Anatolia region in oil producing, Karancak pointed out that the raw oil production in the region forms the 99,6 percent of the total production. Western Raman field has the biggest oil reserve of Turkey.

    [08] ATHLETICS - NATIONAL TEAM TO LEAVE FOR BUDAPEST ON AUGUST 17 FOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

    ISTANBUL, Aug 15 (A.A) - National team will go to Budapest, capital of Hungary on August 17 for the European Athletics Championship, it was reported on Friday.

    Aksel Gurcan, Cigdem Aslan, Oksana Aksel Mert, Husniye Keskin, Tatiana Tuna Kostem, Nesrin Kaya, Aysel Tas, Resat Oguz, Isik Bayraktar, Ercument Olgundeniz, and Metin Sazak will represent Turkey at the Championship that will be held between August 18 and 23.

    [09] BLAST IN OIL FIELD OF TPAO - A TIME-BOMB EXPLODES DAMAGING THREE OIL- WELLS

    BATMAN, Aug 15 (A.A) - A time bomb that was left in the Western Raman oil field of the Turkey Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in Batman province by the seperatist terrorist PKK organization, exploded on Saturday damaging three oil-wells.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent that the time bomb exploded overnight.

    Raw oil production has been postponed, and experts are trying to determine the dimensions of the damage, the officials said.

    Operations are underway in the region to capture the assailants.

    [10] ARCHEOLOGISTS FIND SETTLEMENT UNITS WHICH BELONG TO B.C.5800 IN KIRKLARELI PROVINCE

    KIRKLARELI, Aug 15 (A.A) - Archeologists found settlement units which belong to B.C. 5800 in Asagi Pinar and Kanligecit regions in Asilbeyli village of Kirklareli province, it was reported on Saturday.

    Kemal I. Onal, the Governor of Kirklareli, made observations in the excavation field and said that the activities that has started to search the cultural history of the province will continue with the support of the Culture Ministry.

    Experts from Prehistory Department of Istanbul University and the German Institute of Archeology, carry out the excavation under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ozdogan from the Istanbul University in the region. Along with Prof. Dr. Hermann Parzinger, Director of the Euratische Abteilung Institute in Berlin, several scientists and students from Germany, Bulgaria and Slovakia, also take part in the excavations.

    The excavations which began in August, will continue until the end of September. Research project's aim is to determine the relation between the cultures of Anatolia and Balkans during the prehistoric period. Settlement units were found out during the excavations in Asagi Pinar and Kanligecit regions. A population center bordered with the walls belonged to the early Bronze Age, were discovered in Asagi Pinar. It gives important informations about the beginning and the development of the farming activities in the Thrace region.

    [11] TURKISH CYPRIOTS MASSACRED BY THE GREEK CYPRIOTS IN TASKENT WERE COMMEMORATED

    LEFKOSA, Aug 15 (A.A) - The Turkish Cypriots massacred by the Greek Cypriots in Taskent in October 15, 1974, were commemorated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with ceremonies on Saturday.

    Addressing a meeting, Hakkę Atun, the Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, said, ''they died to make these lands our country. Now we work for the same purpose with the inspirations we have taken from them.''

    Reminding that if Turkey would not began her second phase of the Peace Movement in Murataga, Sandallar, Atlilar, Serdarli and Taskent, the Turkish Cypriots would have been annihilated, Atun pointed out that they do whatever necessary to take the TRNC under guarantee on the political, economic and military fields.

    Describing the armament of the Greek Cypriots with the Russian made S-300 missiles as maddness, Atun said that the hostile attitude of the Greek Cypriots risk the future of the whole island.
