[01] PRESIDENT DEMIREL RECEIVES HUSEYNI, PALESTINIAN MINISTER - DEMIREL: ''TURKEY SUPPORTS PALASTINIAN FRIENDS TO REACH THEIR RIGHTS''ANKARA, July 4 (A.A) - President Suleyman Demirel received on Friday Faysal Huseyni, the Palestinian Autonomous Administration Minister Responsible for Jerusalem Affairs. He said that Turkey supports her Palastinian friends to reach their rights.Addressing the meeting, Demirel stressed, ''the mind will be always victorious'' and added that Huseyni's visit to Turkey will be useful to evaluate latest developments in Palestine. Faysal Huseyni noted that they hope the problems to be reached a peaceful solution, adding, ''but peaceful future relations between Palestine and Israel are under threat along with the Middle East peace process that has been in deadlock for a long time''. Pointing out that Turkey can play an important role on providing Israel to implement the Oslo Agreement, Huseyni said that Israel who uses the decisions taken at the multi-sides negotiations as a bargaining point, can cease the whole peace process. Huseyni added that he held productive talks with Ismail Cem, the Foreign Minister, and Sukru Sina Gurel, the State Minister, about what can be done in Jerusalem issue. He emphasized that the negotiations between Demirel and Yaser Arafat, the Leader of the Palestinian Autonomous Administration, will contrubite to peace in the region. [02] NEW EARTHQUAKE IN ADANA PROVINCE AND ITS SURROUNDINGSANKARA, July 4 (A.A) - A slight earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale shook Adana province at 05:15 a.m, on Saturday.The Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory Earthquake Research Institute officials said that the epicenter of the earthquake was Ceyhan county of Adana Province. Officials from Governership of Adana told the A.A correspondent that 395 people wounded at the panic caused by the earthquake. [03] PRESIDENT DENKTAS OF TRNC RECEIVES CORDOVEZ - DENKTAS, ''THERE IS NOTHING NEW'' - CORDOVEZ DUE IN CYPRUS AGAIN IN SEPTEMBERLEFKOSA, July 4 (A.A) - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) received on Friday Diego Cordovez, the UN Secretary General's Special Consultant to Cyprus, for the second time.Addressing the journalists, Denktas said that he explained the views of the Turkish Cypriot side about the latest developments on the island, and added, ''there was nothing new at the meeting''. Denktas noted that Cordovez will come to the island again on September. Cordovez will leave the island tomorrow after he addresses a press conference in order to evaluate his contacts on the island. [04] FOURTH OF JULY INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE US - PRESIDENT DEMIREL SENDS CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO US PRESIDENT BILL CLINTONANKARA, July 4 (A.A) - President Suleyman Demirel sent a message to the US President Bill Clinton on Saturday in order to celebrate the the National Day of the US in the name of Turkish people.Demirel pointed out in his message that Turkey and the US have cooperation relations based on the friendship, and stressed that Turkey aims to further strenghthen the bilateral relations with the US. President Demirel added, ''both countries are aware of their regional and international responsibilities. Turkish and American people will maintain to cooperate for the joint interests of the humanity. The existing ''extended partnership'' relations between Turkey and the US will also serve this purpose''. [05] ''BERTELSMANN FORUM'' MEETING - FOREIGN MINISTER CEM IN GERMANYBERLIN, July 4 (A.A) - Ismail Cem, the Foreign Minister, came on Saturday to Germany in order to attend the annual ''Bertelsmann Forum'' international meeting that is organized by the Bertelsmann Foundation based in Gutersloh, in the Berlin Presidency Palace Bellevue.Cem will address to the session named '' Is the European Union a secret power?'' and will express his views on the geostrategical power of Europe. Meanwhile the report named ''Great EU Profile Before the Unification of Europe'' of Prof. Dr. Werner Weidenfeld from Ludwig Maxmilian University, that was taken up at the yesterday's session, pointed out that the membership of the Greek Cypriot side to the European Union will cause the island to be more divided. Presidents of Germany, Slovenia and Poland, Jacques Santer, the Chairman of the European Commission, Viktor Chernomirdin, the former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Felipe Gonzales, the former Spanish Prime Minister, and Foreign Ministers of Germany, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine are also in attendance at the meetings. [06] COUNCIL OF MINISTERS APPROVES OF MILITARY MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH RUSSIAANKARA, July 4 (A.A) - Council of Ministers on Saturday approved of the Military Memorandum of Understanding signed between Turkey and Russia in Moscow during the visit of Gen. Ismail Hakki Karadayi, Chief of General Staff in May.The memorandum of understanding was arranged aiming to improve friendship and cooperation between Turkey and Russia in military field, the Memorandum of Understanding was issued in Today's official gazette. The Memorandum of Understanding foresees making ''Framework Agreement in Military Field'' and initiation of contacts between the experts of the two countries. [07] CORDOVEZ, THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL'S SPECIAL CONSULTANT TO CYPRUS: - ''I HELD POSITIVE MEETINGS WITH DENKTAS AND CLERIDES''LEFKOSA, July 4 (A.A) - Diego Cordovez, the United Nations Secretary General's Special Consultant to Cyprus, said on Saturday that he held positive contacts on the island.Addressing a press conference after concluding his contacts, Cordovez noted that they need an acceptable, reasonable and fair formula for both sides in order to maintain negotiations. Reminding that he will convey his observations and views to the UN Security Council on Monday, Cordovez pointed out that he will describe his contacts on the island as positive at the meeting with the Council. Cordovez stressed that President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was very productive during the meetings and expressed satisfaction with his contacts with the both side's leaders. Mentioning the lack of confidence between the two communities on the island, Cordovez said, ''re-start of the negotiations is very significant, afterwards anything can be discussed within this framework''. Noting that they apply a two-level plan in order to re-start the negotiation process, Cordoves emphasized that he came together seperately with Rauf Denktas and Glafcos Clerides, the Leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration, as the first step of the mentioned plan. He also added that he aims to visit both Ankara and Athens in coming days. Diego Cordovez will visit the island again in September. [09] INTERNATIONAL ''BERTELSMANN FORUM'' MEETING - FOREIGN MINISTER CEM: - ''REPORT INCLUDES POSITIVE REMARKS''BERLIN, July 4 (A.A) - Ismail Cem, the Foreign Minister who came to Germany in order to attend the annual ''Bertelsmann Forum'' international meeting that is organized by the Bertelsmann Foundation based in Gutersloh, in the Berlin Presidency Palace Bellevue, said on Saturday that the ''strategical report'' that forms the agenda of the conferance, includes positive remarks for Turkey and Cyprus.Addressing the Turkish press members, Cem noted that the report is more realistic than the other approaches in this respect. The report titled ''Great EU Profile Before the Unification of Europe'' of Prof. Dr. Werner Weidenfeld from Ludwig Maxmilian University, stresses that Turkey plays a determiner rola in Europe''.
