Haktanir will meet Eminzade and Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Harrazi on Saturday. Haktanir is expected to convey President Suleyman Demirel's message regarding Iraqi crisis to Iranian President Mohammad Khatemi. Bilateral relations, latest developments about Iraq and regional issues would be taken up during Haktanir's contacts. [03] TURKEY-ALBANIA - ALBANIAN PRESIDENT MEIDANI EXPRESSES WILLINGNESS TO SEE MORE TURKISH COMPANIES IN ALBANIAISTANBUL, Feb 14 (A.A) - Albanian President Recep Meidani on Friday expressed willingness to see more Turkish companies in Albania.Addressing Turkish-Albanian Business Council meeting which is linked with Turkish-Balkan Business Councils acting within the framework of Foreign Economic Relations Commitee Meidani said Turkey and Albania have very strong political, military and cultural ties based on history and stressed the need to strenghten economic and trade relations between the two countries. Meidani also mentioned about the studies they had realized in Albania in economic field. Recalling that serious reforms started in Albanian economy since 1991, Meidani said they attributed importance to privatization, particulary privatization of telecommunication, energy, mines and oil. Meidani said they would set up an agency in Albania to protect foreign investment adding that 10 days ago they had signed a decree related with the establishement of this agency which strong international institutions supported financially and organizationally. Meidani said they would set up banks for foreign entrepreneurs and decrease bureucracy adding that there was an aid and cooperation agreement signed between Turkey and Albania. Meanwhile, Turkish-Albanian Business Council Chairman Necip Naci Dogru mentioned about Turkish projects in Albania adding that foreign trade volume was annually about 60 million dollars before 1997 yet this decreased due to internal conflict in Albania in 1997. Dogru stressed that there was an important potential in Albania and called on trade relations between the two countries to be strenghtened. [04] TURKEY-SUDAN - PLANE CRASH IN SUDAN - PRESIDENT DEMIREL SENDS A MESSAGE TO SUDANESE PRESIDENTANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - President Suleyman Demirel on Friday sent a message to Sudanese President Gen. Omer Hasan Ahmet al-Besir about the plane crash which happened in Sudan.Presidential Press Center statement said President Demirel expressed his condolonces felt over the death of Sudanese Vice President and Culture and Information Ministers in the plane crash. [05] TURKEY-SYRIA - TANKERS WAITING AT SYRIAN BORDER - ENTRANCE OF 607 TANKERS WHICH WAIT AT KARGAMIS BORDER GATE START TO TURKEYGAZIANTEP/KARAGAMIS, Feb 14 (A.A) - Motorine loaded tankers which waited in Kargamis Border Gate in southeastern Gaziantep province, began to enter to Turkey with a permission given by Premiership.Gaziantep Governor Muammer Guler said there was a total of 607 tankers in the borders, 221 of them were Turkish and 386 of them were Syrian. Recalling that permission was given to the motorine loaded tankers at Feb 12 and 13 Guler said related units took necessary measures to this end. Burhan Irmak and Salih Ozcelik, the two drivers, told A.A correspondent that they had to stay in Syria for more than two months adding that they were very happy to come Turkey. [06] TURKEY-AZERBAIJAN (1) - AZERI PRESIDENT ALIEV IN ISTANBUL - ALIEV: ''OUR FRIENDSHIP WILL BE FOREVER AND CAN NOT BE SHAKEN''ISTANBUL, Feb 14 (A.A) - Azeri President Haydar Aliev said on Friday that frienship between Turkey and Azerbaijan would be forever and could not be shaken. President Suleyman Demirel said every problem of Azerbaijan would be problem of Turkey.Azeri President Aliev who paid an official visit to Turkey staged a joint news conference with President Suleyman Demirel. Addressing the news conference Demirel expressed pleasure over seeing Aliev and the accompanying delegation in Turkey. Demirel said these two countries have perfect relations. Demirel said ''every problem of Azerbaijan is a problem of Turkey'' adding that very positive improvements could be recorded in Azerbaijan in the recent 4-5 years under the determined leadership of Aliev. He said Turkey would do its best to help the improvement of Azerbaijan adding that during the visit they would take up bilateral relations and issues related with the region. Meanwhile, Aliev in his part said he came to Turkey to evaluate the situation in the region and to send messages to the world. Aliev also expressed pleasure over being in Turkey. [07] NORTHERN IRAQ - KDP-PUK TALKS - KDP AND PUK DECIDE TO SOLVE QUESTIONS THROUGH DIALOGUEANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - Iraqi Kurdish Democrat Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) high ranking officials convened in Saklava on Friday for the first time after nine months decided to solve problems through dialogue and consolidate ceasefire.KDP Ankara representation made a statement on behalf of Sami Abdurrahman from KDP and Kamal Fuad from PUK and voiced the decisions taken during the meeting. After the meeting which lasted four hours the two sides decided that: -Ceasefire will be consolidated. Both sides will be in an effort to solve questions through dialogue without applying to force. -The sides will stop from attacking to each other through media and will avoid from shaking of security. -All convicts will be released next week without any condition. -Evacuation of regions and leaving homes would be ended. Permission will be given to enable people return to their houses and regions. The sides decided that a special commission would work to provide return of people to their homes. -Putting pressure on citizens, living in political regions and their detainment, would be banned. -The sides decided that a joint commission, composed of experts, would be established to maintain the implementation of UN Security council's resolution no: 986. This commission will meet next week. -The sides agreed on the establishment of another commission which will provide coordination and cooperation to serve to people on health, education and energy field. -The sides agreed to normalize services in the fields of electric, trade and transportation in the region. -Both sides decided to continue to meetings. Time and place of the meetings will be specified next week. [08] TURKEY-CHINA - FOREIGN MINISTER CEM DUE TO VISIT CHINA AND VIETNAMANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem will pay visits to China and Vietnam between Feb 16 and 21 and bilateral political relations and joint economic projects will be taken up during the visits, it was reported on Saturday.Foreign Ministry statement said regional and international issues would also be taken up during the visit which will also be participated by businessmen. The statement said this will be the first official visit of a Turkish Foreign Minister to China within bilateral framework after long years. It also said that this was the first official visit taking place to Vietnam in this high level. The statement also said realization of these visits which have been planned earlier would depend on the developments in the Middle East. [09] TURKEY-AZERBAIJAN (2) - ALIEV IN ISTANBUL - PRESIDENT SULEYMAN DEMIREL: ''AZERBAIJAN HAS ENERGY RICHES THAT MAY COMPETE WITH PERSIAN GULFISTANBUL, Feb 14 (A.A) - President Suleyman Demirel said on Saturday that Azerbaijan had energy riches that may compete with Persian Gulf adding that ''presentation of Caspian and Central Asian oil would be via Azerbaijan and Turkey.''Addressing a breakfast given in the honor of Azeri President Haydar Aliev, President Demirel said helping the development of neighboring Azerbaian would not be an economic problem. Stressing that Azerbaijan had its own development potential and energy riches that may compete with the Persian Gulf, Demirel said Azerbaijan and Turkey have to assume a duty like energy terminal and that a very close cooperation to this end continues. Demirel said Azerbaijan recorded important developments after it gained its independence and took important steps to establish a national state after reaching internal stability adding that ''model of the democratic Azerbaijan is Turkey. Azerbaijan is in an effort to establish a democratic and secular state like Turkey that was founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.'' Demirel said there were 800 companies in Azerbaijan established with the capital of Turkish businessmen and 40 companies in Turkey that were established with the capital of Azeri businessmen. President Demirel called on Turkish businessmen to make more investment in Azerbiajan and set up production, industry and tourism installations which will serve to the infrastructure projects, unemployment and welfare of people. Aliev also received Parliament Speaker Hikmet Cetin on Friday. During the meeting Aliev said they favored solving bilateral problems with Armenia through peaceful means. Mentioning about the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Aliev said Armenia should withdraw from the Azeri territory it occupied and that one million Azeris who had to leave their homes should return for the solution of problem. Recalling that there was a difference of opinion between Azerbaijan and Armenia on Nagorno-Karabakh region, Aliev said participants of Minsk group decided that the problem should be solved in two stages. Aliev said they wanted Azerbaijan-Armenia problem to be solved through peaceful means and that they favored normalization of relations. Parliament Speaker Cetin in his part said President Aliev was the guarantee of peace and stability of the whole region and stressed that this problematic period of Azerbaijan could be overcomed under the determined policy of Aliev. Aliev also received Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz. [10] TURKEY-BULGARIA - TURKISH-BULGARIAN JOINT WORK GROUP MEETING ENDS - CULTURAL RICHES IN BOTH COUNTRIES TO BE TAKEN UNDER PROTECTIONSOFIA, Feb 14 (A.A) - Turkish-Bulgarian Joint Work Group meeting, where political, economic and social relations were taken up, ended on Saturday.A joint text of agreement was issued after the meeting where Turkish delegation was headed by Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Mehmet Ali Irtemcelik. The text said relations between the two countries improved in every field adding that the sides reached to a consensus of opinion to set up sub- commissions to hold studies related with the protection of cultural riches in these countries. It said social and humanitarian issues were also taken up during the meeting and that the sides also decided to establish a joint commission for the solution of problems on these issues. The second meeting of Turkish-Bulgarian joint study group will take place in Turkey between April 21 and 22, 1998. [11] TURKEY-GREECE - US SAYS PEACEFUL WISHES OF ANKARA AND ATHENS ARE ENCOURAGINGWASHINGTON, Feb 14 (A.A) - The US State Department Spokesman James Rubin said on Saturday that they found peaceful wishes of Ankara and Athens as encouraging.Responding to a question about recent proposals of Turkey for the solution of problems with Greece, Rubin said US wanted a real peace and security to be established between its two allies. Rubin said the US found recent wishes and statements of Turkey and Greece, to solve long standing disputes, as encouraging. The US State Department Spokesman Rubin also said they expected negotiations to start in the Island after the general elections in Greek Cypriot Side. Noting that the US efforts were underway to find a solution to Cyprus question, Rubin said the US President Bill Clinton's Special Envoy to Cyprus Richard Holbrooke talked to the leaders in the region. [12] TURKEY-GAP-EU - 7.5 MILLION DOLLAR EXPORTATION FROM GAP TO EUGAZIANTEP, Feb 14 (A.A) - Agricultural and animal products, worth of 7.5 million dollars, were exported from Southeastern Project (GAP) region to European Union (EU) countries in January, 1998, it was reported on Saturday.In the same period of last year, 7.8 million dollar exportation was realized from the region. Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Union told A.A correspondent that animal products worth of 164,000 dollars, grains worth of 87,000 dollars, dry fruit worth of 1.4 million dollars and textile exportation worth of 5.7 million dollars were realized to EU countries in January. Among the EU countries, the most important exportation was realized to Italy with 2.9 million dollars, later to Germany with 1.2 million dollars and to Belgium with 794,000 dollars. [13] TURKEY-CULTURE - TURKEY'S CULTURAL RICHES TO BE OPENED TO WORLDANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - Culture Ministry is getting prepared to present riches of Turkish culture to various countries extending from Asia to America, it was reported on Saturday.''Ottoman Masterpieces'' exhibition will be opened in Turkmenistan this year, ''Meeting in Seas'' will be in Portugual and ''Sabanci Collection'' will be exhibited in the US. Culture Ministry will participate in the fair called ''Oceans are Heritage to Next Generations'' with ''Meeting in Seas'' exhibition that will be opened in Lisbon, Portugual between May 22 and Sept 30. Culture Ministry also plans to open an exhibition in France in 1999 within the framework of the 700th anniversary of the foundation of Ottoman Empire. The exhibition will include important masterpieces belonging to Ottoman period that are in Topkapi Palace. Meanwhile, the ministry is also getting prepared to evaluate the invitations coming from Germany to enter exhibitions next year. Culture Ministry will open ''Foreigners-Enemies-Neighbors-Friends-Turkish culture for 1200 years'' exhibition in Linden Museum. The ministry which also evaluated the demand coming from ''Gulbekyan Foundation'' based in Portugual, will send ''Carpet and Seramic Art'' exhibition, which was prepared for Europalia festival, to Portugual next year. The ministry is also in an effort to bring Turkish-Islam masterpieces in Polland to Turkey within the framework of the 700th anniversary of the foundation of Ottoman Empire. The exhibition will be opened to visit by the end of this year in Turkish and Islam Masterpieces Museum in Istanbul. Within the framework of exhibition marathon of the ministry, Japanese seramics will be presented to Turkish visitors. The exhibition which will be composed of 80 pieces that will be brought from Japan will be opened to visit between June 1 and 3, 1998 in Turkish and Islam Masterpieces Museum in Istanbul. [14] TURKEY-BRITAIN - NAVAL FORCES COMMANDER DERVISOGLU DUE TO BRITAINANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - Naval Forces Commander Vice Admiral Salim Dervisoglu will go to Britain on Sunday to hold official contacts and observations, it was reported on Saturday.General Staff written statement said Dervisoglu will be the official guest of British Naval Forces Commander Vice Admiral Sir Jock Slater.
