[01] TURKEY-US-IRAQ - MEETING HEADED BY PRIME MINISTER MESUT YILMAZ STARTSANKARA, Feb 1 (A.A) - The meeting which will evaluate the tension between US and Iraq started on Sunday under the leadership of Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz.Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister Bulent Ecevit, Deputy Chief of General Staff General Cevik Bir, several officials from General Staff, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Korkmaz Haktanır, high ranking officials from the Foreign Ministry and Prime Minister's Military Consultant Brigadier General Kenan Deniz participate in the meeting. The recent tension between US and Iraq, possible intervention of US and the attitute of Turkey will be taken up during the meeting. [02] TURKEY-WEF - FOREIGN MINISTER CEM MEETS JORDANIAN DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER CEVAT ANNANIDAVOS, Feb 1 (A.A) - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, who is currently in Davos to participate in World Economic Forum (WEF) meetings, met Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Cevat Annani on Sunday.The most important issue which Foreign Minister Cem took up with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Annani was the tension between Iraq and US. The two ministers also took up the idea of joint initiation of neighbouring states of Iraq, which was formed during the meeting of Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Saturday, aiming to diffuse tension in the region and to solve the conflict by peaceful ways. [03] CYPRUS - STATE MINISTER GUREL: ''THERE ARE TWO STATES IN CYPRUS AND CONTACTS SHOULD BE HELD ACCORDING TO THIS PRINCIPLE''LEFKOSA, Feb 1 (A.A) - State Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said on Sunday that there are two sovereign, politically equal units meaning states in Cyprus, adding that ''the issue should be evaluated upon the principle of two states.''Addressing a statement before leaving Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), State Minister Gurel recalled the statement of TRNC President Rauf Denktas who said that ''intercommunal talks in Cyprus are no longer possible,'' and stated that all parameters regarding Cyprus issue have changed. ''We think that the attitute of Mr Denktas is very right and our statements were also issued within this framework. A progress can only be recorded in Cyprus if one approaches this issue upon these fundamental realities,'' said Gurel. State Minister Gurel pointed out that Turkish soldiers exist in the island to protect the independence and sovereignty of TRNC. Gurel added that Turkey launches efforts to contribute to improvement of TRNC's economy and increase its investments and production. [04] TURKEY-ACCIDENT - ONE SOLDIER DIES, SIX OTHERS INJURED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTSEBINKARAHISAR, Feb 1 (A.A) - One soldier died and six others were injured when a military vehicle slipped off the road near Sebinkarahisar township of Giresun on Sunday.The military vehicle driven by Yalcın Tekin skipped off the road due to ice and Muzaffer Kazdal died in the accident. The six others were injured and taken for medical treatment in Sebinkarahisar State Hospital. [05] TURKEY-IRAQ - FM: ''WE WILL PROBABLY RECEIVE A RESPOND FROM IRAQ TODAY CONCERNING MEDIATION PROPOSAL OF TURKEY''DAVOS, Feb 1 (A.A) - Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Turkey will probably receive a respond from Iraq the same day concerning the mediation proposal of Turkey by itself or together with neighbouring states of Iraq to diffuse the tension between Iraq and United Nations (UN) and to find a peaceful solution.Foreign Ministry officials stated that a possible war that will erupt in Iraq will have negative effects on neighbouring states, adding that US regards the biological weapons which it claims that Iraq has, as a threat for neighbouring states. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Cem said that Jordan supports the initiation of Turkey after meeting with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Cevat Annani. [06] TURKEY-FOREIGN POLITICS - FM OFFICIALS WORK ON TURKEY'S FUTURE PERSPECTIVEDAVOS, Feb 01 (A.A) - Foreign Ministry launches efforts to form the perspective of Turkey for the coming 22 years, it is reported on Sunday.Foreign Ministry officials told A.A correspondent that the economic and social status of Turkey in 2010 and 2020 will be determined by this work which is expected to end in March. Noting that the parameters of Organization on Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will be used in this work, the officials stressed that these parameters are democracy, development of human capital, technological development, energy security and flexibility, water and environmental problems and administration. Foreign Ministry officials pointed out that the work will play a significant role in determination of future foreign policies of Turkey, adding that ''the results which have just been obtained show that Turkey will be a giant country in 2020.'' [07] TURKEY-IRAQ-US - MEETING HEADED BY PRIME MINISTER YILMAZ ENDS - PRIME MINISTRY STATEMENT: ''FOREIGN MINISTER CEM IS FORESEEN TO VISIT BAGHDAD IN THE COMING DAYS''ANKARA, Feb 1 (A.A) - The meeting headed by Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz which evaluated the recent tension between US and Iraq and the attitute of Turkey ended on Sunday.Prime Ministry said in a written statement after the meeting that Turkey hopes the tension between Iraq and the United Nations (UN) to diffuse and it is worried about the developments. Noting that Turkey will continue to hold contacts with the concerned sides and neighbouring states which will be negatively effected by the escalation of the crisis, the statement added that as a first step Foreign Minister Ismail Cem is foreseen to visit Baghdad in the coming days. The statement went on saying that: ''As it is known, Turkey suffered a lot from the developments after the Gulf Crisis including the escalation of separatist terrorism. Turkey, which opposses to widening of mass destructive weapons in our region, extends support to United Nations (UN) Special Commission's mission and targets which are foreseen by UN Security Council. Turkey, which supports the view that the problems between Iraq and UN Special Commission should be solved by peaceful methods, believes that the efforts launched to solve the crisis by diplomatic ways should continue and reiterates its call to Iraq that it should fully implement the resolutions of UN Security Council as soon as possible. We believe that the participation of Iraq's other neighbours in this peaceful initiation which is also supported by UN Secretary General will also be beneficial.''
