SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Hellenic Literature Society in cooperation with the Hellenic American Educators/UFT announces the first ANNUAL BOOK EXHIBIT OF GREEK LITERATURE AND CULTURE in New York City, scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday September 21 and 22, 1996. The HLS will exhibit a large selection of books (several thousand) printed in both the English and the Greek languages, representing all disciples and interests in Greek literature: from classical and contemporary art, history, culture, literature and religion to children's books, schoolbooks, language courses, travel guides and cookbooks. Throughout the two days of the exhibit there will also be numerous lectures and workshops on Greek literature. We are inviting all persons of Greek heritage, philhellenes, as well as everybody else to participate in this event of international importance, and experience THE BEST THAT IS GREECE. The HLS is a non-profit organization and is managed entirely by volunteers. It's mission is to promote the richness of the Hellenic civilization and its vast culture. This undertaking requires support in all forms. If you are able to give of your time, and your talent to mount this exhibition please contact us. In addition to volunteers, there is a viable need for financial support as well. Contributions are tax deductible .

ANNOUNCEMENT

As a result of a request, by some of you, for our assistance in minimizing duplicate mail in your electronic mailboxes, "The Hellenic Literature Society" will no longer post its bimonthly newsletter in the various Hellenic discussion groups. As it was suggested, from now on we will only post a brief announcement, twice monthly, for the benefit of new participants in the discussion groups.

We understand that many of you, who prefer to read our newsletter in the discussion groups forum rather than receive it in your private mailbox, will be disappointed. This decision was not taken lightly. Although the newsletter is only a few pages long at this time, we plan to substantially increase its size by expanding coverage of Greek literary events in the near future. Also, we plan to use several additional discussions groups as a means of propagating Hellenic literature and culture. So the three or four copies of the newsletter that some of you receive now, might become five or ten. This, undoubtedly will saturate mailboxes and make many more of you unhappy.

Therefore, we urge those of you who have been reading the newsletter at the public forums to become members of the HLS, by e-mailing your electronic and postal addresses to GREEKBOOKS@AOL.COM. This way you will continue reading HLS's newsletter without interruption.

The October 1 issue of the newsletter of the Hellenic Literature Society is now available. To receive your copy please e-mail your subscription request to GreekBooks@AOL.com.

We thank you for your support,

The Board of Directors
