Oikonomakos <ngo@eie.gr>Post-doctoral position available in the Structural Biology Research Group Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) Athens, Greece Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position available in the Structural Biology Research Group as part of a Research Training Network (CAMKIN) to investigate five prototypic members of calmodulin regulated protein kinases (titin kinase, myosin light chain kinase, death-associated protein kinase, death-associated protein kinase related protein 1, phosphorylase kinase). CAMKIN (Calcium/calmodulin regulated kinases) is a European Research Training Network HPRN-CT-2002-00252 (2002-2006)) in collaboration with EMBL-Hamburg, Germany (Matthias Wilmanns, coordinator), Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics-Oxford, UK (Louise Johnson), King's College-London, UK (Mathias Gautel), Weizmann Institute of Science-Rehovot, Israel (Adi Kimchi), NHRF-Athens, Greece (Nikos Oikonomakos) and Institute of Medical Technology-Tampere, Finland (Mauno Vihinen). Applicants should have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields. The candidate should have experience in protein biochemistry (expression, purification) and be interested in protein structure. The projects will involve all aspects of modern structural biology from protein expression to structure determination. The candidate will initially work on the preparation, kinetic and inhibitor binding studies with PhK holoenzyme, gamma-catalytic subunit (truncated form) but also on crystallisation and structural studies and expand on other calcium/calmodulin regulated protein kinases of the subfamily. The post is funded by the EU and is available immediately for 2 years in the first instance, with possibilty for extension for 2 more years. Salary 2600 euro/month, Relocation costs 1000 euro. Travel costs to the home scientific community 2800 euro (for 4 years). Letters of applications, along with a c.v. and the names and e-mail addresses of two referees, should be sent to: Nikos G. Further details can be found at URL:www.cordis.lu/improving/networks/home.htm. Fellows of the CAMKIN network will be provided with opportunities for visits for training, research and scientific exchange at the CAMKIN partner laboratories. Dr. Nikos G.
