Structural biology Turku Centre for Biotechnology

A graduate student position and a post-doctoral position funded by the Academy of Finland for 3 years are immediately available in the group of Dr. Tassos Papageorgiou at the Turku Centre for Biotechnology in BioCity, Turku. The project aims to understand enzyme stability, adaptation, structure and function at extreme pH conditions through a multi-disciplinary approach that includes X-ray studies, biophysical methods and enzyme kinetic assays. The project provides a unique opportunity for the student to learn a wide variety of modern techniques, from structural biology and molecular biology to biochemistry and interactive computer graphics.

For the post-doctoral position: a recent PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology or a closely related field is required. Experience in macromolecular crystallography techniques is desirable but not essential and experienced biochemists or molecular biologists keen to learn protein crystallography are encouraged to apply.

Our laboratory is well-equipped for cloning, protein expression, purification, crystallisation and structure determination. The X-ray facilities include a Mar345 image plate, Osmic confocal mirrors, Oxford Cryosystems equipment, Xenon derivatization device and several Silicon Graphics workstations. Excellent core facilities for molecular and cell biology are available.

To apply, please send your CV with full details of qualifications and experience, and the name and addresses of two referees to Dr. Tassos Papageorgiou, Turku Centre for Biotechnology, Tykistökatu 6A, FIN-20521, Turku, Finland. Closing date for applications is January 18.

For further information and informal enquiries, please e-mail: apapageo@btk.utu.fi or phone: +358 2 333 8012.
