UNIVERSITY OF CYPRUS COMPUTATIONAL BIOPHYSICS

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

The Departments of Physics and Chemistry have an opening for a research position at the post-doctoral level in the field of computational biophysics. The position is sponsored by the Leventis Foundation grant "Regulation of Glycogen Metabolism and Oxidative Repair of DNA by Molecular Association: Insights from Simulations and Experiment."

The project will investigate the molecular recognition and regulation of Glycogen Phosphorylase (a target for type II diabetes), and molecular mechanisms of oxidative repair in DNA. The methods will include molecular dynamics, Poisson-Boltzmann and electron-transfer matrix element calculations (software CHARMM, UHBD, GAUSSIAN98 and MOPAC2000).

The program will involve collaborations with research groups in the USA (Duke University, Harvard University, University of Maryland), and Europe (National Research Foundation, Greece and Universit? Louis Pasteur, France).

The duration of the grant is two years with the possibility of a third-year extension.

Applicants should send a description of research experience, a C.V. and two letters of recommendation to any of the following faculty members:

Georgios Archontis (archonti@ucy.ac.cy), Spiros Skourtis (skourtis@ucy.ac.cy, cabrskou@cytanet.com.cy), Athanasios Nicolaides (athan@ucy.ac.cy).
