The Molecular Modelling of Materials Laboratory (MMML) at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, National Research Center for Physical Sciences “Demokritos” located in Aghia Paraskevi, a suburb of Athens, Greece has a post-doctoral position immediately available for a highly qualified Chemist, Chemical Engineer or Physicist. The project is related to the molecular simulation of structural and thermodynamic properties of dendrimers, a new class of polymers. Dendrimers exhibit unique properties that make them promising for a variety of applications in diverse areas such as biology and biotechnology, catalysis, and separation processes. Molecular simulation using realistic potential models for the dendrimers and the solvents provides the unique capability to develop a fundamental understanding of the molecular processes that affect macroscopic properties. In this way, new dendritic molecules can be designed with tailor-made properties.

The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in statistical mechanics, molecular simulation methods (Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics and/or molecular mechanics) and numerical methods as well as in scientific computing programming. A one-year contract will be offered with possible extension for additional years.

MMML is a leading research group in the area of computational materials science. Research staff includes three senior researchers, three post-doctoral fellows, and approximately ten Ph.D. students. State-of-the art computing facilities are available. Research work is financially supported by various international organizations such as the European Union, and NATO, and national agencies such as the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology.
