NCSR Demokritos has opened 12 positions for assistant and associate professors of research. The deadline for submition of candidacies is September 30 1998. Candidates must sumbit together with the application, a CV (5 copies), a description of research interests and future research plans, certified copies of their degrees/ previous work experience. Candidates must be below 45 for assistant professors, and below 50 for associate professors. They must be healthy, and must not have been convicted for any crime. They must have COMPLETED THEIR MILITARY SERVICE, or have been lawfully exempt.

The Institute of Microelectronics has two assistant level positions 1) CMOS Integrated Circuits: (design and / OR fabrication). 2) Microsystems: (emphasis on Si integrated sensors)

The other positions include 3) Molecular Biology of Insects(emphasis on new methods of biological control of harmfull to agriculture insects), 4) Cell Biology (emphasis on mechanisms of cell multiplication during growth and older age) for the Biology Institute (assistant professorships)

5) Intelligent and Friendly Information Systems (emphasis on data basis, internet applications), as assistant professor, and 6)Wireless broad band Communication Systems as associate professor for the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications

7) Organic Chemistry (emphasis on the synthesis of physical products), 8) Environmental Chemistry (emphasis on laboratory atmospheric chemistry), as assistant professorships for the Institute of Physical Chemistry

9) Dynamics of thermal Energy systems (emphasis on computational fluid dynamics and heat transport), for the Institute of nuclear science and radiation protection as assistant professor.

10) Nanostrucured materials (emphasis on Molecular epitaxy of thin films) associate professor for the material science department

11) Peptide chemistry (emphasis on immunochemistry) for the Institute of Radio-isotopes and radio-diagnostic products as assistant professor

12) Experimental neutron scattering with application on solid state physics and material study, assistant professorhip for the Nuclear Technology Institute.

Assistant professors receive 14 salaris per year, and their net (after taxes) income is approximately 400.000 to 450.000 drachmas per month, while associate professors get 500-550.000 drachmas per month net. Demokritos is a competitive working environment and candidates are supposed to submit proposals for their own funding, while they are also supposed to tie well with existing research teams (especially for assistant professors, who are not supposed to be completely on their own as is the case in the US).
