The EU Delegation in Washington DC

The Delegation of the European Union Cordially invites you to "How 560 Greek Priceless Treasures Got to Washington DC and National Geographic˘s Saving the Past initiative"

Wednesday, November 9, 2016 6 pm - 8 pm

(Doors open at 5:45 pm and close promptly at 6:30 pm. Pre-registration required for entry into the event.)

2175 K Street NW | Entrance on 22nd St.

Join us at the EU Delegation to hear a fascinating conversation between Dr. Fred Hiebert, National Geographic˘s Fellow Archaeologist and Dr. Zoe Kosmidou, Director of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in the USA. They will share insights on how the recent National Geographic Museum's exhibition: ?THE GREEKS: From Agamemnon to Alexander the Great? set sail with 560 priceless treasures from 22 museums across Greece, to bring an extraordinary cultural experience to Washington, DC.

In their conversation, they will narrate the fascinating story of the diplomatic way that the exhibition was born six years ago. Dr. Hiebert will conclude by introducing the recent National Geographic˘s initiative about preserving World˘s Cultural Heritage.

This event has been organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States in collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture. It is part of the "Protecting our Heritage" initiative, a program supported by UNESCO and organized by the Washington Network of the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC), under the 2016 Italian presidency held by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington DC. The program was created in order to raise awareness on the need to act against the growing threats posed to cultural heritage by wars, international terrorism, criminal organizations, climate challenges - or more simply, by neglect.

The event is free, but reservations are required. It is expected to fill up fast. Please note that Conversations in Culture events may be filmed or photographed.
