Daphnis and Chloe

A masterpiece of the silent cinema with introduction and flute music

Orestes Laskos’ 1931 film Dafnis kai Hloi (Daphnis and Chloe) is a masterpiece of the silent cinema. A retelling of one of the most prized works of Greek antiquity, Longus’ pastoral romance Daphnis and Chloe, Laskos’ film portrays with delicacy and tenderness the first stirrings of youthful love. Shot on location on the island of Lesvos, the film offers stunning views of an authentically pastoral landscape. The screening will be introduced by David Elmer, Assistant Professor of the Classics at Harvard University, and accompanied by an original musical score performed on the alto flute by Jessi Rosinski. Free.
