GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY MID-ATLANTIC PARADE 2006

Final Preparations are under way for this year's Greek Independence Day Mid-Atlantic Parade on Sunday, March 26th, 2006 at 2:00 PM to commemorate the 185th Anniversary of Greek Independence, honoring the Greek and American Philhellenic ancestors' sacrifices to preserve the very ideals for which this Country was based: Freedom and Democracy for All. Come share the Spirit and Tradition of one of Baltimore's most celebrated neighborhoods - Greektown. This significant Mid-Atlantic event has honored the presence of many Congressional, State and local Government Officials. The Parade has been traditionally televised and publicized by the local, national and international television media. This year's event will draw spectators from the entire eastern seaboard.

We are seeking your support in promoting this year's event by participating in this year's parade. Previous parades have welcomed tremendous crowds and participants exceeding 30,000 spectators, over 100 marching groups, the participation of military bands/ units including the U.S. Marine Corp. Band, the U.S Naval Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard, the Baltimore NFL Ravens Marching Band, floats, and visuals from around the Mid-Atlantic region. This 185th Commemoration Event holds a special meaning as we hold strong a International tradition of commemorating those who sacrificed to preserve Freedom and Democracy. The Parade builds revenue for the City of Baltimore and provides a viable business boost especially in the many communities that surround Greektown on what would normally be a sleepy late March Sunday.

Our spectators will flock to Baltimore's hotels/ shops/ and Restaurants beginning the week prior to the event to absorb the City of Baltimore's unique hospitality. Please view our website http://www.greekparade.com/ for the most up to date information or call the Parade Hotline @ 410-563-GREK (4735) and email us at helleniclegacy@aol.com .

We appreciate your willingness to help support and promote this most important event which highlights the bridge between Hellenic ancestry and our pride as Americans. Historically, the struggle for Greek Independence inspired Philhellenes around the world such as Thomas Jefferson, Lord Byron and the French Painter Delacroix.

On Sunday, March 26th, 2006 at 2:00 PM, the Mid-Atlantic region will commemorate the declaration of the birth of Freedom and Democracy in our homeland, the United States of America - a country who's founding principles were born in the land of our parents and grandparents. Let us not forget the sacrifices of our Forefathers and Heroes whose adherence to the Hellenic ideals of Freedom and Democracy made this country a great nation!
