The Music of Byzantium is the title of the opening concert in Greece in Britain a nationwide series of events illustrating the richness of contemporary Greek culture and presented on the occasion of the British Presidency of the European Union January - June 1998.

The Greek Byzantine Choir directed by Lycourgos Angelopoulos performs music from the 3rd to the 15th centuries illustrating the glories of the great classical canon, together with works by contemporary composers inspired by the Byzantine tradition.

Part One
Hymns from the Byzantine repertoire, including the Papyrus of Oxyrinchus, a tribute to the Byzantine Maistor Ioannis Koukouzelis and the oral tradition of Mount Athos

Part Two
UK premiere of Vlepondas by John Tavener
