The Union of Hellenic Student Societies in the U.K. (E.E.F.K.ME.B) would like to draw your attention to an issue which is of a great importance to both the Greek and British nations; this issues concerns the return of the Parthenon marbles currently on display in the British Museum in London.

The Union of Hellenic Student Societies in the U.K. (E.E.F.K.ME.B) has taken the initiative to inform the public and challenge both the Greek and British governments to make further and decisive steps on the issue. The Union has assigned Friday 14th November 1997 as Parthenon Day.

Activities that will take place during the Parthenon Day include:

  • A mass emailing to: The British government, The Labour Party, The British Museum, and the British embassy in Athens asking The British and Greek governments to enter negotiations to decide on a timetable for the return of the Parthenon marbles.
  • Demonstrations outside the British Museum and the Ministry of Heritage in London, and British Embassies worldwide.
  • Debate discussions will be organised by Student Hellenic Societies in U.K. Universities
A Parthenon Day Web Site will be created which will keep supporters updated.
For now more information is available on the web in the following address: http://www.greece.org/eefkmeb http://www.uk.digiserve.com/mentor/marbles/

This initiative is supported by a number of Hellenic and Philhellenic organisations and institutions worldwide. We would be more that grateful if you could help us publicise the event.
