BYZANTINE TREASURES
Saint Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church cordially
invites you to attend a SPECIAL SLIDE PRESENTATION by
Ms. Helen C. Evans (Associate Curator, Department of
Medieval Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York,
New York) on THE GLORY OF BYZANTIUM. This will take
place at 6:00 pm on Saturday, 12 April 1997, at Saint
Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church (3149 Glen Carlyn
Road, Falls Church, VA, 22401; tel. 703-671-1515).
This presentation will be a fine opportunity to hear
about and see some examples of the great works on
dsiplay at THE GLORY OF BYZANTIUM exhibition now at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art. These works exemplify the
second golden age of Byzantine civilization and are on
loan from major museums and other holders in America,
Europe, Egypt, and Turkey. They number more than 350
rarely seen treaures like gold and silver secular and
liturgical icons, manuscripts, mosaics, frescoes,
ivories, gems, and ceramics.
