San Fransisco, Sep. 27-29: Modern Greek Studies Artists' ExhibitPublic Events Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: "HR-Net News Distribution Manager" <dist@hri.org>Attachment: "Hellenic Journal" articleModern Greek Studies to Hold Second Annual Hellenic Artists' ExhibitThe Second Annual Hellenic Artists' Exhibit, sponsored by the Modern Greek Studies Foundation at California State University at San Francisco, will again be held at Fort Mason Art Center, Marina Boulevard and Buchanan Street, in Landmark Building A-1 on Friday through Sunday, September 27 to 29.The exhibit will feature new paintings and sculptures by artists of Hellenic ancestry not previously exhibited. Twenty artists have been invited to participate in the showing under the auspices of the Hellenic International Artists' Foundation (tm). Noted landscape artist Gregory Kondos will be the Honored Guest at the exhibit. Mr. Kondos was recently elected to the National Academy of Design and will be featured this fall in a PBS Special Program. Recognized as one of the world's most prominent California landscape artists, he has won numerous prizes and has works in permanent collections of many museums, including the Yosemite Museum, where he has been a member of the Artist-in-Residence Program since 1989. Among his solo exhibitions is a recent retrospective at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. His paintings, drawings and prints have been described by Art Harlow, Director of the Hearst Art Gallery at St.Mary's College, as "a visual feast for those who love landscape art and the unique beauty of California's diverse terrain." Committee members of the Ft. Mason Exhibit are Caterina Peterson, Dr. Thanasis Maskaleris, Dr. Peter Haikalis, Pat Aleck, Ann Condas, Linda Gibbons, Titika Koplos, Violet Nicholas, Catherine Banks, Annette Patsuris and Michael Genung. Dolly Vasil is honorary chair. Opening ceremonies and reception will be held on Friday, September 27, from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m., with entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, dessert and libations. The reception will afford the opportunity meet the Honored Guest, Mr. Kondos, and the featured artists and sculptors. Admission is $35.00.
