Greek Embassy Reception in Washington D.C. to benefit the Hellenic American Academy (HAA)

On January 19, 1996 at 7:30pm, there will be a reception at the Embassy of Greece to benefit The Hellenic American Academy. This reception (buffet/dinner), is an annual fundraising event, sponsored by the Embassy, to assist the only Greek Orthodox day school in the Washington Metropolitan area.

The event is hosted by the Ambassador of Greece (Mr.Tsilas); the Ambassador of Cyprus (Mr.Iakovides) will also be there. The honored guests will be Senator Paul Tsongas and the Rev. George Papaioannou. A few members of the Honorary Committee: Mr.Ike Pappas, Mrs.Barbara Spyridon Pope, Mr.& Mrs. Theodore Peddas, Mr.& Mrs. James Peddas, Dr.Christine Warnke, Dr. & Mrs. John Baras, Hon. Eugene Rossides, Dr.Papadopoulos, etc...

The Hellenic American Academy includes an Early Childhood program, full day Kindergarten, and first through fifth grades. The school program includes a challenging academic curriculum in English; a Greek language program which also introduces students to the history, geography, and mythology of Greece; morning prayer and observance of Orthodox holidays; and rich extra curricular art and music programs. The school is fully certified and accredited by the State of Maryland and the Government of Greece. It is a private, not-for-profit school without any institutional, corporate, parochial, or any other major funding; it has managed to establish itself through the tireless efforts and support of trustees, parents, and friends.

Supporting this (the one and only) priceless treasure in our area is very important to all Greeks, Greek-Americans, Orthodox Christians, and any friend or admirer of the Hellenic culture and tradition.

If you wish to participate, the tax-deductible contribution for this event is $100. ALL proceeds (100%) go directly to the school to supplement its budget.
