[05] THEODORAKIS CLARIFICATIONS ON STATEMENTS ABOUT JEWSAthens, 13 November 2003 (16:13 UTC+2)His surprise about the rumble created due to his recent statements about Jews, was expressed by Mikis Theodorakis. Mr. Theodorakis had stated, during a presentation of three of his books, that the Jews have the fanaticism, the self-awareness and the ability to assert themselves. Today we can say that this small people is unfortunately the root of all evil, not good, which means that too much self-awareness and too much persistence is bad for you, he had pointed out. In his announcement on Wednesday, Mr. Theodorakis stated that he has always been on the side of the weak and of course the Israeli people, while he has repeatedly condemned the Saron government policy and the role of Jewish American politicians and intellectuals in drafting the aggressive Bush policy. There could have only been purposeful confusion between the Israeli people, which I have proven I admire and honor, and these negative phenomena, that essentially mar Israel's image thus playing the truly anti-Semitic role. These are on the side of Evil, the root of Evil as I recently stated, he stressed. The Central Jewish Council of Greece issued an announcement, pointing out that the distinguished composer is aiding the winds of religious intolerance and racism.
