    The proposals of the government for changes in the electoral law will be announced by Prime Minister Costas Simitis, after the meeting of the governmental committee. Self-reliance at 41%, representation at 85%, the new division of the electoral districts will also be discussed. All proposals of MPs and PASOK officials will be utilized stated Government Spokesperson Christos Protopapas, commenting on Mr. Pagalos' proposals for 200 single seat districts. The proposal draft will be submitted to party leaders by the Minister of the Interior.

    [03] PAPANDREOU WARNS AGAINST DENKTASH GAMES

    Foreign Minister Giorgos Papandreou characterized the latest threats of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash to move to the creation of settlements in Varosia if his request to reopen the Nicosia airport is not met, as tactics games that are condemned by Greece, the European Union and the International Community.

    Mr. Papandreou met with his Italian counterpart Franco Fratini and stressed that a European momentum has been formed regarding the Cyprus issue, one giving hope for the reunification of the island, but he added that for the solution to found there must be real and honest will from Denktash and Ankara.

    The combination of Mr. Denktash's movements, extending a friendly hand on one side and threatening on the other, shows that this will, at least in his person, does not exist and that these are tactics' movements and not a real spirit to solve the problem, he noted.

    Mr. Fratini noted that the Italian Presidency does not find any other reliable and serious alternative solutions other than the Annan plan on the resolving of the Cyprus issue.

    He also added that the Italian Presidency will try to convince the Turkish Cypruit side that the time has finally come to accept the Annan proposal and resolve the Cyprus issue.

    During their meeting the two Foreign Ministers discussed the Cyprus issue, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Constitution of the EU, the further enlargement of the EU, the Balkans and the Middle East. Mr. Fratini also signed the distinguished personalities' declaration on the Olympic Truce.

    [04] LITHUANIA LAST OBSTACLE FOR TEENS

    Lithuania will be the last obstacle Greece't teen National Basketball Team will face on Saturday, in order to participate in the finals of the world championship being held in Thessaloniki. The Greek team lost to Croatia yesterday by 1 point, but retained its first position in the group.

    The 54-year-old patient who underwent an artificial heart implant procedure at the Interbalkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki, died from failure of the right ventricle according to the statements of Professor Panos Spyrou, who expressed his anger and sorrow and characterized the fact that certain forms of media attributed the cause of death to bleeding as malignant. The patient left the operating room without losing a drop of blood, said Mr. Spyrou characteristically, while he repeated his insistence on the artificial heart implant.
