[01] AHEPA TO OPERATE NEW WEB PAGE

The AHEPA organisation that deals with Greek and Cypriot issues in Congress has announced plans to start operating a new "Congressional Report Card" web page.

The page will offer information relating to individual voting and to issues dealt with relating to Greece. Sample copies of the new web page were distributed during this years annual AHEPA conference, where they were well received.

The page aims to grade each elected Congress representative according to whether or not he or she is a member of the Greek Issues Committee within the House of Representatives, if they have submitted bills either for or against Greek and mainly Cypriot issues, the level of their participation in events regarding Greek-Americans.

Each representative will be able to check up on their grade and on how they can improve it, according to the president of the Public Relations Committee.

[02] ΑΝΑΣΤΑΤΩΣΗ ΠΡΟΚΑΛΕΣΕ ΦΩΤΙΑ ΣΤΗΝ ΞΑΝΘΗ

Αναστάτωση, κυκλοφοριακό χάος, διακοπές ρεύματος και μεγάλες ζημιές προκάλεσε φωτιά που ξέσπασε από άγνωστη αιτία, λίγο έξω από την πόλη της Ξάνθης, στην εθνική οδό Ξάνθης-Κομοτηνής.

Η φωτιά επεκτάθηκε εξαιτίας των ισχυρών ανέμων γρήγορα σε αποθηκευτικό χώρο με ελαστικά αυτοκινήτων και οι πυκνοί καπνοί ήταν ορατοί από απόσταση 20 χλμ. Λόγω των εύφλεκτων υλικών η φωτιά πήρε γρήγορα μεγάλες διαστάσεις και επεκτάθηκε στους διπλανούς στύλους της ΔΕΗ, που διέκοψε την παροχή ρεύματος.

Η κυκλοφορία στο ένα ρεύμα της εθνικής οδού Ξάνθης Κομοτηνής διακόπηκε για την προστασία των διερχόμενων οδηγών

Χάρη στην έγκαιρη επέμβαση της πυροσβεστικής η φωτιά δεν επεκτάθηκε σε κοντινό συγκρότημα συνεργείων αυτοκινήτων. Η φωτιά τέθηκε υπό έλεγχο μετά από μία ώρα.

[03] PREPARATIONS FOR "DIAGOREIA 2000" BEGIN

The first group of athletes who are to participate in the "Diagoreia 2000" competition in Rhodes has been announced.

Until now, 42 male and 20 female athletes from both Greece and from foreign countries such as Italy, France and Lebanon will participate in track, long jump and high jump races on 3rd September, that are part of the "Diagoreia 2000" competition held in the Rhodes circuit stadium.
