[01] GREECE INFORMS THE EU ON THE TURKISH PROVOCATION

    Athens 29 December (MPA)

Athens has launched an information campaign directed to the international organisations and the European Union on the provocative statements Turkish officials continue to make, while at the same time, has warned Ankara that its intransigent stance further distances it from the European family.

Undersecretary of defense Dimitris Apostolakis reiterated Greece’s determination to defend its integrity after the provocative statements made by Turkish officials and the air and sea exercise scheduled to be held by Turkey in January. He stressed that the goal of the Greek policy is to preserve the benefits won in Luxembourg and avoid actions that will escalate the conflict. He also said that he is optimistic that the likelihood of a hot incident will be avoided.

Turkey is seeking to create a climate of tension in the Aegean as it has scheduled a military exercise that will start next Friday and will last until January 25 and for this purpose it has reserved 8 regions in the Aegean from the north-eastern island of Thasos to Crete, in southern Aegean.

Turkish deputy prime minister Bulent Ecevit in an interview to the German magazine “Der Spiegel” maintains that Greece has territorial aspirations against Turkey and accuses Athens of arrogance.

[02] THE GREEK MINISTER OF DEFENSE IS VISITING TIRANA

    Tirana 29 December (MPA)

Greek minister of defense Akis Tsochatzopoulos is visiting Tirana today. He will visit the Greek soldiers participating in the multi-national force in Albania, while he will meet with president Meidani, prime minister Nano and Archbishop Anastasios.

Earlier in Sarajevo, he had met with Alijia Izetbegovic chairman of the Bosnian collective presidency.

[03] THE FUNERAL OF KORNELIUS KASTORIADIS WILL BE HELD TODAY

    Paris 29 December (MPA)

The funeral of philosopher and thinker Kornelius Kastoriadis, who has been described as one of the strongest minds of the century, will be held in Paris today.

Kastoriadis died last Friday at the age of 75 from complications after an open heart surgery. He had published numerous studies and treatises, while he was one of the founders of the magazine “Socialism or Barbarism”.

[04] THE NEW SERB PRESIDENT TOOK THE OATH OF OFFICE TODAY

    Belgrade 29 December (MPA)

Socialist Milan Miludinovic, who was elected to the position of the Serb president, took the oath of office today in Parliament and assumed his duties, 8 days after his victory in the last presidential elections over ultra-nationalist Voislav Seseli. The 55yearold former foreign minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is the successor of Slobodan Milosevic to the post.

The Radical Party of Voislav Seseli has protested against Miludinovic’s victory maintaining that the election results are not valid.

[05] 75 MILLION ECU TO ROMANIA FROM THE EUROPEAN BANK OF INVESTMENTS

    Bucharest 29 December (MPA)

The European Bank of Investments approved the sum of 75 million ECU for the modernization of the telecommunications’ infrastructure in Romania and the upgrading of Bucharest’s heating network.

About 40 million ECU will be invested to the state telecommunications organization “Romtelecom” for the installation of modern equipment that will allow transmission through fiber optics, while 35 million ECU will be directed to “RADET” for the improvement of the heating network in the Romanian capital.

[06] THE RE-ENACTMENT OF THE UKRAINIAN PLANE FLIGHT WILL BE HELD IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS

    Thessaloniki 29 December (MPA)

Representatives of the Greek construction company “Michaniki AE” were expected to file suit today against anyone responsible for the deaths of its 23 employees, who were on board the Ukrainian plane that crashed about two weeks ago. According to information, the suit will be based on accusations according to which, the “Yakovlev” should not have been allowed to fly to Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport, as the permission granted to its airline for the trips to Thessaloniki provided only for the use of “Boeing” aircraft.

Head of the Greek committee of experts Mr.Akrivos Tsolakis announced that the re-enactment of the air tragedy is expected to take place in the following days with an airplane of the same type which will be flown by a Ukrainian crew. He also speculated that the issuing of the committee of experts’ findings will be delayed as a new circle of investigation is expected to start soon.
