NEWS IN DETAIL[01] GOVERNMENT TO SOON DRAW FINAL DECISIONS ON BUDGETAthens, November 11 (M.P.A.)The Government is expected to draw its final decisions on the upcoming year's budget and the state's economic policy, in order to submit the draft plan to the ruling PASOK party's officials by the end of the week.The Governmental Committee will convene tomorrow, while on Thursday the Ministerial Council will convene with the Prime Minister and PASOK President Kostas Simitis. On Friday and Saturday, the Parliamentary Group and the PASOK Central Committee will confer jointly. [02] UPHEAVAL IN MAIN OPPOSITION, POLITICAL COUNCIL TO CONFER TOMORROWAthens, November 11 (M.P.A.)In-party critics of main opposition party of New Democracy President Miltiades Evert have once again asked for his resignation, prompting the party's leader to call an extra.Party deputy Dora Bakoyanni, the daughter of ex-premier and N.D. honorary Konstantinos Mitsotakis, said yesterday that Mr. Evert's resignation is a precondition so that the party get out of the deadlock. Today, Mr. Evert issued an announcement wherein he blasts his critics for questioning the political council's recent decision to maintain the current leader until the party congress this spring, and for not observing the party's organizational structure as provided for by the Articles. [03] INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE ON SUNK WARSHIP, SEARCH FOR DETACHED MISSILESamos, November 11 (M.P.A.)The search continues in the sea region of the Samos island in the Aegean, in order to discover the "Penguin" type missile that got detached from the warship "Kostakos".The Greek Navy warship sank in the area one week ago when a ferry boat rammed into it. [04] GREEK PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION ON VISIT TO MELBOURNEMelbourne, November 11 (M.P.A.)A five-member cross-parliamentary delegation from Greece is visiting Australia, for the "Demetria '96" festivities held in Melbourne.The delegation is headed by PASOK deputy Ioannis Tsaklides who, in his address to the Panmacedonian Union of Melbourne and Victoria, stated that when it comes to national issues, "all Greeks, the government, the parties and the people in and outside of Greece are united like a fist." Mr. Tsaklides also referred to the name issue between Greece and FYROM and, after he commended the interim agreement, stated that, on this matter, "Greece will remain unyielding to the end." Australia's Immigration Minister Mr. Cadman thanked the Greek community which, he said, "even though it is subject to so many challenges, it reacts in a very civilized manner and sets a good example." During their stay in Melbourne, the Greek parliamentarians will meet with members of the Greek-Australian community and Australian officials. Participating are New Democracy deputy Helias Vezdrevanis, Communist Party of Greece's deputy Stavros Panayiotou, Coalition of the Left and Progress deputy Stella Alfieri and Democratic and Social Movement George Rokos. [05] CENTRAL MACEDONIA TECHNICAL CHAMBER ON MISSION TO ROMANIAThessaloniki, November 11 (M.P.A.)In an effort to develop cooperation between Greek and Romanian engineering and technical companies, the Greek Technical Chamber's Department of Central Macedonia will embark on a visit to Bucharest on November 19.The Greek delegation's six-day visit is within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed between the Greek Technical Chamber and Romania's General Association of Engineers.
