  • [04] 17N DEFENSE ASKS FOR THE CANCELLATION OF PRELIMINARY PROCEEDINGS The trial of the "November 17" terrorist organization continued this morning with objections on behalf of the defense, concerning the invalidity of the preliminary proceedings.

Vassilis Tzortzatos' defense attorneys filed a request that the suit by the widow of DA Andrioulidakis be suspended, because his family received compensation from the "Evaggelismis" hospital for his death.

However, DAs Christos Lambrou and Vassilis Markis, suggested the objections be overruled, because, as they said, everything was done according to the proper legal procedure.

Other defense attorneys requested that evidence such as the findings of the graphologist and the fingerprints found in the hideouts, be barred from use in trial because it was either subjective or circumstantial.

Meanwhile, the trial will move into its main body today, with testimonies from murder and attempted murder witnesses, in cases that 17N took the responsibility for. These include the attempted murder of US Seargeant Robert Chad, the robbery of the Nation al Bank, during which police officer Christos Matis was murdered, and the double homicide of publisher Nikos Momferatos and his driver Panagiotis Roussetis.

Mr. Lambrou made mention of a "final confession", noting that it was in the hands of the Greek Republic that the defendant was saved.
  • [06] THOUSANDS OF ABUSED CHILDREN Approximately 5000-10000 children are physically or mentally abused in Greece each year, but the majority of the cases is not reported, according to the information presented at a meeting on the abuse and treatment of minors, organized by the municipalit y of Thessaloniki.
