  • [01] MITSOTAKIS: HONEST POLITICIANS HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR Honorary President of New Democracy Konstantinos Mitsotakis spent two and a-half hours yesterday giving a statement to District Attorney Mr. Papaggelopoulos, on New Democracy's relationship to the Liberian company, and after his deposition spoke against PASOK's Secretary General, Mr. Kostas Laliotis.

"Dealing with this sad phenomenon, which lowers the level of our political life, will be for the benefit of all parties and, I believe, PASOK. Because I am sure that majority of their supporters and staff members and of the party does not approve of such

    methods", added Mr. Mitsotakis.

The Honorary President of ND stressed that honest politicians do not fear Justice, and mentioned that ND trusts it, honors it and does not insult it.

"The most honest Mr. Mitsotakis, well known to all Greeks for his style and morals, continues to insult and spread slander about me, because I dared speak, frankly and boldly, about specific truths concerning the "Works and Days of the 1989-1993 period",

stressed PASOK's Secretary General in response.

"Let Mr. Mitsotakis rest assured all of the friends, as well as the supporters, of PASOK and the Democratic Front, and the overwhelming majority of Greeks, know his course, his history and his political ethos very well.

The Secretary of PASOK expressed his hope and assumed that "Mr. Mitsotakis will disclose the truth about the special account ND held in the National Bank, in order to turn $600,000 into drachmas on 8/6/1989, and a few days later another $600,000 (3/7/198 9), as well as deposits in a special account of ND in the National Bank, placed by certain distinguished friends from the US, under the name American friends of Greece".

"Because that is the only way", underlined Mr. Laliotis, "that responsibility will be attributed to all who participated in the trafficking of dirty money, while at the same time they posed as the archangels of the catharsis".

  • [02] BRITISH MEDIA ON "TOURIST SPYS" The arresting of 14 Dutch and British men and women due to the fact that they were photographing the airfield of Kalamata, and their indictment on counts of espionage, has caused reactions in the British media. A representative of the Ministry of Foreign

Affairs, and not Mr. Papandreou as had been announced, will visit one of the prisoners in Korydallos.

The "Guardian" attributes the incident to the post-September 11 hysteria. ."What we are being accused of is comical. Being locked up like this, with 15 other women in a room and just two toilets, is pretty awful", stated one of the prisoners to the paper
