    [01] 40 FOREIGN DEPUTIES OF GREEK ORIGIN WILL BE IN GREECE TOMORROW

    Athens, 18/07/1998 (MPA) Forty Parliament deputies and House Representatives of Greek origin from different countries will be in Athens tomorrow to be briefed on issues of national importance. During their stay in Greece they will meet with president of the republic Kostis Stephanopoulos, prime minister Kostas Simitis, Parliament president Apostolos Kaklamanis, while they will also have contacts with political party leaders and government ministers.

    The deputies come from Australia, Canada, the United States, Ukraine, Albania, Georgia, Romania, South Africa, Kenya, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Argentina, Holland, Lithuania and Peru.

    [02] THE RION-ANTIRION BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WILL BE INAUGURATED TOMORROW

    Athens , 18/07/1998 (MPA) The inauguration of the Rion-Antirion bridge construction project will take place tomorrow. In the inauguration ceremony will be present president of the republic Kostis Stephanopoulos, prime minister Kostas Simitis and minister of environment, public works and land planning Kostas Laliotis.

    Mr. Laliotis stated that the project will be completed in the year 2004 and will cost 230 billion drachmas. He also stated that 10.000 projects at a national and regional level are at the stage of construction or are close to being completed.

    Thessaloniki, 18/07/1998 (MPA) Everything is ready for the wedding of right-wing main opposition party of New Democracy leader Kostas Karamanlis with Natasa Pazaiti. The wedding ceremony will be held in the village of Proti in Serres, northern Greece tomorrow at 7 in the afternoon.

    It will be a simple ceremony due to the recent death of the groom's uncle former president of the republic Konstantinos Karamanlis.

    [04] PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION FOR THE PROBLEMS IN THESSALONIKI'S WATER SUPPLY NETWORK

    Thessaloniki, 18/07/1998 (MPA) Thessaloniki's water supply network will be fully restored today after the breakdown two days ago in the water-main which left most parts of the city without water.

    Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office requested the holding of a preliminary investigation to find out if there is penal responsibility for the breakdown.

    [05] ิวล PROSECUTOR REQUESTED THE LIFTING OF THE PARLIAMENTARY IMMUNITY OF ND DEPUTY GIOVANOUDAS

    Thessaloniki, 18/07/1998 (MPA) Thessaloniki prosecutor's office submitted a written request to Parliament president Apostolos Kaklamanis demanding the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of New Democracy deputy Varsamis Giovanoudas.

    A 25yearold Law student filed a suit against him accusing him of beating her up when she told him that she wants to end their affair. Mr. Giovanoudas is 44 years old, is married and has two children.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Kaklamanis will submit a proposal to the political party leaders to change the Parliament regulation and have an open vote for the lifting of the parliamentary immunity.

    [06] THE GREEK INITIATIVE ON THE OLYMPIC TRUCE WAS PRESENTED TO UN REPRESENTATIVES

    Athens, 18/07/1998 (MPA) The Greek initiative for the implementation of an Olympic Truce was presented today by Greek deputy foreign minister Giorgos Papandreou to the permanent representatives of the UN member- states.

    Mr. Papandreou pointed out that the promotion of the idea of the Olympic Truce contributed in averting an armed conflict in the Persian Gulf, while he underlined the contribution the center in Olympia, which is in the process of establishment, could have in easing the tension in the region of Kosovo and in other regions of potential conflict.

    [07] YILMAZ WILL BE IN THE OCCUPIED NORTHERN CYPRUS ON MONDAY

    Nicosia , 18/07/1998 (MPA) Turkish prime minister Mesut Yilmaz will be in the occupied northern Cyprus on Monday to attend the events on the occasion of the black anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

    Mr. Yilmaz is scheduled to meet with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash. Tomorrow, 6 Turkish warships are expected to sail into the port of Kerinia, while later today 7 Turkish warplanes will land at the illegal airfield of Lefkonikou.

    [08] MOSCOW DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE KOSOVO PARLIAMENT

    Moscow, 18/07/1998 (MPA) Moscow does not recognize the independent Parliament in Kosovo, according to a statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry, pointing out that the ethnic Albanians must agree on a ceasefire and resume the peace talks with Belgrade.

    On the contrary, Albania expressed its full support to the Parliament of the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo.
