    Athens, February 22 (MPA)

    Prime Minister Kostas Simitis and ruling party PASOK President, stated that the party is in need of new ideological and political direction, so that it may determine the developments in the new era.

    Moreover, he stated that "the time has come for us to dare conflict with the established ideas and outdated mentality."

    Meanwhile, the party's youth organisation is to conclude its conference this evening by electing a new executive secretariat.

    [02] ALBANIA-FYROM SIGN AGREEMENT FOR TELECOMMUNICAITONS

    Tirana, February 22 (MPA)

    The governments of both Albania and FYROM are pleased over the cooperation evident among the two countries in the sector of telecommunications, following the relevant agreement signed by the respective premiers Fatos Nano and Branco Cervenkovski.

    The agreement concerns the operation of a telecommunications network. The two leaders also agreed on cooperation in other programs that concern the lake of Ohrid and Durress port.

    [03] THE EU ON GREEK MINORITY LIVING IN TURKEY

    Brussels, February 22, 1998

    The European Union has asked Ankara to uphold the Treaty of Lausanne, concerning the protection of the Greek-Christian minority and of the religious monuments in Turkey, while it also stressed that the protection of minorities' rights is a prerequisite for this country's strengthening of ties with the European Community.

    The EU also expressed its deep concern and sorrow over the "serious incident at the Greek-Orthodox Church of Aghios Therapon in Istanbul."
