Mr.Meidani underlining that the development of bilateral relations has deep roots, he stated characteristically that "we are following the will of our peoples". [B] BALKANS[04] YILMAZ: THE SPIRIT OF THE MADRID AGREEMENT IS DEADWeb Posted: 16:18 GMT+2Strasbourg 11 October (MPA)The spirit of the Madrid agreement is dead because of the unacceptable statements made by the Greek government and specifically by Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos, said Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz in Strasbourg.To the question if the spirit of Madrid will be revived through the meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kostas Simitis in Crete, mr.Yilmaz responded that he is hopeful that the meeting will bring about a written agreement. Meanwhile, US Presidential envoy Richard Halbrooke will visit Ankara tomorrow to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz, government vice- president Bulent Ecevit and Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, and afterwards he will visit Nicosia and Athens. [06] INFLATION REACHED 561,8% IN BULGARIAWeb Posted: 16:18 GMT+2Sofia 11 October (MPA)Inflation in Bulgaria reached 561,8% in the period of January to September of 1997. Specifically, in September it increased by 3,6% compared to the previous month of August.Last September, food prices increased by 2%, while the prices of services rendered showed an increase of 6,4%. According to the estimates provided by the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance, inflation in Bulgaria will be between 15-18% in 1998. [07] FREE INDUSTRIAL ZONE AT THE GREEK-BULGARIAN BORDERSWeb Posted: 16:18 GMT+2Sofia 11 October (MPA)The free industrial zone at the Greek-Bulgarian borders will be put in effect in 1998, within the framework of the efforts aimed at the development of border regions.The above was decided by the prefect of Evros, in north-eastern Greece and the regional administrator of Haskovo in Bulgaria during their meeting in Ormenio yesterday. The project will be financed by the European Union and according to initial plans, 60-65% of the 600 new jobs that will be created in the free industrial zone of Ormenio, will be occupied by Bulgarians and the rest by Greeks. The wages that will be paid to the Bulgarian workers will be 15-30% higher than the average worker's wage in their country. [C] EUROPE[08] THE CYPRIOT PRESIDENT ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL OF EUROPEWeb Posted: 16:18 GMT+2Strasbourg 11 October (MPA)Cypriot President Glafkos Clerides appealed to the Council of Europe to take immediate action against the human rights violations and assist the member-states in their effort to improve their policy in order to comply with the Council of Europe principles.Addressing the Summit meeting in Strasbourg, the Cypriot President welcomed the establishment of a European Court for Human Rights and the institution of the Human Rights Commissioner. Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz was not present in the morning session of the Council of Europe Summit that was presided over by Cypriot President Glafkos Clerides, while he was also absent from yesterday's session that was addressed by Greek President Kostis Stephanopoulos.
