    London 29 August (MPA)

Rome's initial superiority to Athens in the bid to host the 2004 Olympic Games has weakened mainly due to the success of the IAAF World Championships in Athens and also, as a result of the behavior of IAAF's President Primo Nebiolo. The above is maintained in the two-page presentation of the British newspaper "The European" in which it is also pointed out that it is very hard to predict which of the two cities will be selected to host the Olympic Games.

The writer of the article mentions that Athens knew that the recent IAAF World Championships would have huge consequences on its effort to host the Olympics. If those crucial 10 days were proven to be chaotic, Greece knew that it would have to say "goodbye" to the possibility to host the Olympic Games. The article writer concludes that the Athenians should be proud because the IAAF World Championships were held in the best possible way.
