    NEWS IN DETAIL

[01] MINISTER OF PUBLIC ORDER AND US AMBASSADOR LOOK INTO ATTACK

Greek Minister of Public Order Kostas Geitonas met today with United States Ambassador to Greece Thomas Niles and discussed the undergoing investigation of the recent terrorist attack at the US embassy in Athens.

The known leftist group "November 17" are the main suspects in the bombing, where a rocket grenade exploded 200 yards away from the embassy, causing considerable damages to nearby buildings, but no injuries.

[02] PASOK LEADER'S HEALTH CONDITION SHOWS STEADY IMPROVEMENT

The health condition of PASOK's leader and former Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou continues to improve while the treating physicians at the Onassion Cardiosurgery Center expressed their optimism that Mr. Papandreou will soon go home.

Mr. Papandreou today completes three months of hospitalization.

[03] FYROM: VOTE OF CONFIDENCE TO BE HEARD IN PARLIAMENT TOMORROW

A vote of confidence will be seeked by FYROM's new coalition government during tomorrow's parliamentary session there.

FYROM's newly formed government comprises the representatives from the three main parties, while the Liberal Party was excluded in the re-shuffle by new Premier Branco Crvenkovski, who formed his Cabinet on February 10.

[04] GREEK FORMER MINISTER ISSUES REPRIMANDS AT FYROM

Former Minister of Macedonia-Thrace (then known as Northern Greece Ministry) Nikos Martes issued today verbal reprimands at FYROM, stating that the neighboring state is attempting to forge history.

Mr. Martes referred to last December's incident in Italy, where during an art exhibition organized by the italian isntitute MEMMO and the Ministry of Culture, the FYROM embasy in Rome threatened to take legal measures if the words "Macedonians- Northern Greeks" were not removed from the title of the exhibition whose theme was Alexander the Great-Macedonians-Northern Greeks."

The former Minister said that "FYROM's starting point for the name issue is the non-recognition of Macedonians as Greeks and the forgery of Macedonia's history, and not the consequential issue, that is, the name of their country."

Mr. Martes also referred to the recent raising of the FYROM flag at the United Nations building, during which ceremony the UN Secretary-General is said to have stated that he "...welcomes a country with ancient history."

"If truly the UN Secretary General made such statement," Mr. Martes said, then this is a UN problem, because it is inconceivable that the Secretary General of this organization would ignore his country's history, meaning Alexandria, which was built by the great Greek army commander Alexander."
