The destructive change in the environment takes tremendous dimensions and we should not just protest with words but each of us should take effective actions because the pollution of the environment increases dangerously and there is an eventuality that it will not be able to be faced effectively.
This is what the Ecumenical Patriarch mr Vartholomeos stressed in his final speech in the symposium about the protection of the environment which took place in Patmos, the island in the East Aegean Sea, where 19 centuries ago Apostole Jogh wrote the book of the "Reveleation".

Ecumenical Patriarch mr Vartholomeos contradicted today once more the scenarios that he has expresed to the Greek Prime Minister his disapproval of the activities his wife ms Demetra Liani Papandreou undertook in Patmos for the manifestations for the 19 centureis since Saint John wrote book of reveleation.
Mr Vartholomeos said that the information that Greek Foreign Minister mr Carolos Papoulias mediated so that the problems due to ms Liani's role in Patmos.
Today in his final speech at the symposium of Patmos, Mr Vartholomeos expressed his gratitude for the help the wife and director of the personal bureau of the Prime Minister's ms Demetra Liani Papandreou offered.
Yesterday it was the Prime Minister who personally stressed that he was dissatisfied with the way some media covered Ms Liani's activities.
Today the Greek Press and Media Vice Minister mr Nikos Athanassakis refused to comment on the media mr Papandreou meant saying that if the Prime Minister wanted he would have spoken on the issue personally.
Main opposition party of New Democracy leader confirmed today that he will not attend the final day of the manifestations underlining that he paid his tribute to the Patriarch by being present at the arrival of mr Vartholomeos's.
The proceedings of the meeting of the heads of the Eastern Orthodox Churches continued for a second day today in the Monastery of Saint John in the Aegean island of Patmos.
During the meeting the heads of the Churches will raise the problems in their regions which will be discussed in order to be solved.
Archbishop of Albania, mr Anastasios stated to reporters that he specifically presented the problems faced by the Church of Albania while he added that many are the problems concerning the schools in the country stating that the number of greek minority students is decreasing each year.

The certainty that the country is in the stage of reorganization and economic development was expressed by greek Prime Minister mr Andreas Papandreou in an interview to the newspaper "TA NEA".
The Greek Prime Minister referred to the interim agreement signed recently with Skopje based on which the FYROM will have to abandon the greek symbols they use in their flag and certain articles of their Constitution which are offensive towards Greece while they will have to end their irredentist propaganda against Greece.

Mr.Papandreou stated that the turkish threat is real and no greek government can ignore it, while there is also and the problem of Cyprus which continues to remain unsolved.
On the internal developments mr. Papandreou said that in the next two years the economic situation in the country will change and many things will be improved.
Greek Foreign Minister mr Carolos Papoulias will meet tomorrow in New York his turkish counterpart mr Erdal Inonu.
Mr.Papoulias will also have contacts with the UN mediators and with his counterparts of the United States, mr Warren Christopher, Russia, mr Andrei Kozirev, Iran mr Ali Akbar Velayeti and Bosnia mr Muhamet Sacirbey but there will be no meeting with the FYROM Foreign Minister mr Stevo Crvenkovski.
Greek Press and Media Vice Minister mr Nikos Athanassakis hailed today the agreement between the Israeli government and the Palestinian auhtorities for the extension of the palestinian self-rule areas.
Mr Athanassakis characterised the agreement as an important step for the peace process and expressed his hope for a permanent and just peace in the area.

A distinguished greek scientist, civil engineer Dr.Antonis Kounadis professor in the Athens Polytechnic School was elected member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
The title is one of the highest distinctions that can be received by a scientist and was awarded to him last Thursday by the President of the Academy, Nobel prize winner Joshua Lendeberg.
Special manifestations for the 80th anniversary of the end of the first world war were announced today by the Minister of Macedonia Thrace mr Constantinos Triaridis.
The manifestations which will be organized in cooperation with the Aristotle Univeristy of Thessaloniki,the Nomarch of the Thessaloniki and the Thrid Army Coprs as well as the the consulates of France and Italy should, as mr Trairidis said, stress all positives points of that era.
