Papoulias Meets GSEE PresidiumWednesday, 01 December 2010 13:00"I think its time rulers should ask the wealthy to open their wallets to contribute. This would be a fair move because it seems that the wealthy are stingy", said the President of the Republic referring to the financial crisis during his meeting with GSEE president Yiannis Panagopoulos and members of the confederation's administration board. On his part, Mr. Panagopoulos said: "we realize the difficult for the country circumstances. But we believe that socially unfair measures were taken and are being taken and there is unfair distribution of burdens. And the wealthy both are not paying but also making up theories to avoid their responsibility and share in dealing with the financial crisis". Furthermore, Mr. Papoulias spoke of "big and unbearable pain on ones hardly hit by the financial crisis. There is certainly a red line below which one can not further press the workers' class". Referring to the role of the union's movement Mr. Papoulias said: "You are giving a battle, we are all giving a battle and we all understand that these difficult circumstances can be overcome only with battles, battles within the frame of democracy and social cohesion. I wish and hope our battles bring a positive result".
