    Prime-minister and Socialist International Council President, George Papandreou addressed the opening speech at the Council of Socialist International two day meeting held in Paris. Global economy, facing consequences of climate change, overcoming conflicts are the basic subjects on the agenda of the Council of the Socialist International. On the crucial issue of climate change, the Council of SI aims to define top priorities as the future of the planet depends on meaningful actions to face consequences of climate change. During his stay in Paris, Mr. Papandreou will have a private meeting with French President Nikola Sarkozy as well as other state leaders.

    Discussion on world economy will be centered on mapping out a sustainable recovery that works for all.

    The Council will discuss the latest developments in the global economy, including the G20 Seoul Summit outcome. Looking at recovery from a social democratic perspective, contributions will be heard on ways to ensure that the recovery "is fair, equitable and sustainable, and to the benefit of ordinary citizens ".

    Regarding climate change, the Socialists will underline the urgent need for a meaningful agreement at the 16th Climate Change Conference to be held in Mexico from November 29, to December 10. The SI conference in Paris aims "to define the social democratic priorities on this most crucial of issue, which will shape the future of the planet".

    In 2010, the SI has actively promoted conflict resolution in the South Caucasus and the Middle East, continued to develop its platform on disarmament issues, supported democracy in different regions of the world and sent electoral observation missions.

    The Paris meeting, being held at the Organization for Economic and Cooperation (OECD) headquarters, is the SI Council's second meeting in 2010. The first was held at the UN headquarters in New York, in June

    [02] FinMin -Troika Officials Meet in Athens

    Troika delegation had a meeting with Finance Minister George Papakonstantinou on Monday morning in view of rescue package third installment . Troika experts are examining the execution of the current State Budget as well as the 2011 Budget to be submitted to the Parliament, on Thursday. Officials from International Monetary Fund, European Union and the European Central Bank will also examine the course of structural reforms they have requested. Apart from Ministries, Troika senior officials will visit the Bank of Greece, the Hellenic Statistics Agency and the National Accounting Office.

    Mr. Papakonstantinou will brief on Greece's economy developments his counterparts at the Eurogroup and Ecofin Councils holding meetings on TUESDAY AND Wednesday respectively.
