Karatzaferis relevant question. Mr. Papandreou made clear that the inquiry committee will center on 2007-2009 altered data that Greece sent to the European Union. Mr. Papandreou attacked the conservative ND party blaming it for flossy alchemies and flagrant violation of fiscal data that have exposed the country. [03] PM Intervention on Acropolis Issue

    Friday, 15 October 2010 10:59

In his intervention regarding temporary contract employees' mobilizations, Prime-minister George Papandreou said: "Nobody has the right to lock or keep our ancient monuments hostage" and underlined that we should not expose our country abroad. Mr. Papandreou described mobilizations as a natural reaction but made clear that protest and arbitrariness are two different things. In the meantime, the ancient Acropolis site is open again to tourists while temporary contract workers are holding a meeting to decide on their further mobilizations.

"Yes to demonstration, no to arbitration"

"No party has the right to foment such acts and particularly when the government is giving solutions to the problem of temporary contract workers as we inherited a legal chaos signed by the ND leader himself, who still refuses to assume his responsibilities", said the Prime-minister.

Commenting GCP general secretary Aleka Papariga maintained that temporary contract employees mobilizations do not have a negative impact on the country's tourism but the intervention of riot police. She said that demonstrators were claiming their right to work and did nothing to offend the holy site.

Mr. Papandreou launched attack against ND party leader A. Samaras, who served as Culture Minister during K. Karamanlis ruling. He blamed Mr. Samaras for the chaos the present government has inherited and his refusal to assume his responsibilities.

In a counter response, ND spokesman Panos Panagiotopoulos underlined that the completion of the Acropolis Museum, a project of global dimension, bears Mr. Samaras signature as Culture Minister and an amendment settling the issue of temporary contract employees, who are asking for the extension of that amendment.

The Acropolis archaeological site opened to the public at 12:00, entrance free, when work stoppage of permanent Culture Ministry employees ended.

Security forces remain at the main gate.

From N.Y Culture Minister P. Gerulanos said procedures for the payment of temporary employees have already started and underlined that hiring is only through ASEP from now on
