The completion of major structural changes through dialogue, with emphasis on the public interest, in order to restart the economy and improve the operation of the state, is -according to officials- the government's immediate priority. At the inauguration of the Thessaloniki International Fair, which this year coincides with the ruling Pasok party's birthday on September 3, Prime Minister George Papandreou is expected to describe the government's overall plan for the country's prospects, the steps that will be taken for exit from the fiscal crisis.

At the same time, the government intends to table a sweeping draft bill, which will lay out a new framework of operation for a series of professions, while it appears determined to promote all the structural changes required for the reform of public utilities and state-run organisations, the advancement of a uniform payroll in the public sector, and the deregulation of the electrical energy market.
