Papandreou, who congratulated the leadership of the Citizens' Protection Ministry and EL.AS, who "decisively contributed to the tough blow against terrorism and violence in our country". In his statements after his meeting with the Minister for Citizens' Protection, Mihalis Hrisohoidis and ELAS leadership, the Prime-minister stressed that recent developments have sent three messages, first being that civil servants can produce the best output under a different ruling concept. Prime-minister's Statement "Leave behind rational that the state is a loot, partisanship and clientelism and show trust, respect and objectivity in utilizing human resources, this is a message to public administration and each civil servant", said the Prime-minister. "The feeling of security was the terminus": The police had been downrated one or two two years ago. We are now putting our house in order and send the message not only to citizens but also abroad. And it is a very important message even for our country's economic recovery", said G. Papandreou. Finally, the Prime-minister stressed, the third message is full respect to human rights and democracy and regardless of difficulties we face problems through dialogue and not violence and arbitration. "The message of democracy is more than ever timely for both our country and at international level. Transparency, respect to citizens, need to combat organized crime and corruption is a message, 43 years after the military coup, that this government serves with piety", said the prime-minister. "It is apparent, that 43 years after the military coup, when we fought for our country's freedom, to fight today to free the dynamism of Hellenism and its huge capabilities. This is what we are doing, we are fighting to exit from monitoring that malpractices of the recent past have led us. I am optimistic that we can and will achieve it", concluded the Prime-minister. Staging 2-day strikes are PAME, the federation of hospital doctors, judicial clerks and the union of Greek actors. ADEDY with the participation of teachers and state hospital employees are stating a 24-hour strike on Thursday in protest against cuts in salaries and bonuses and equal retirement age for men and women. Piraeus Court has ruled dock workers 48-hour strike as illegal and abusive, but PAME supporters create problems to ship set to sail from Piraeus port. Reactions against New Social Security Bill Workers in mill, construction, pharmaceutical and paper industries are also staging a 48-hour strike demanding recall of social security bill, and rises in unemployment benefit and rise in salaries. Hospital doctors started mobilizations in protest against 20% cut in budget for night shifts.
