    PASOK leader G. Papandreou repeated his pledge to put an end to the decline in state health insurance, favourable regulations for banks, corruption and mismanagement in IKA during his visit to IKA branch in Zografos suburb.

    âOn October, 5, we put an end to decline in the state Insurance Systemâ said PASOK president G. Papandreou during his visit to IKA General Informatics Directorate.

    Mr. Papandreou stressed that favourable regulations for banks, mismanagement, corruption, lack of computerization have placed IKA on red line. He bowed to provide a basic fair pension for all, a viable insurance system for all those insured ans certainly for the new generation.

    Doctors and IKA personnel briefed him on the problems in their fields during his visits to IKA General Informatics Directorate and IKA branch in Zografos. Mr. Papandreou among others spoke of âmedievalâ labour after talks with employees under the status of the âstage programâ who referred to their employment problems.

    PASOK leader was accompanied by Evi Hristofilopoulou, competent on Employment and Social Protection issues.

    [02] Dozens Civilians Killed in Air Raid in Yemen

    At least 80 civilians were killed Wednesday in an air raid in Yemen targeting Shiite rebels, eye witnesses were quoted as saying. Heavy clashes have been raging in the area between government troops and Shiite rebels.

    More than 80 civilians, mostly women and children, were killed when a warplane targeted displaced families who had gathered under trees in the area of Adi, in Amran province, said an eye witness.

    [03] Greek PM in Brussels

    Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis is due in Brussels to attend an emergency EU Council. The EU leaders will try to shape the EU's stance at the G20 Summit scheduled for 24 and 25 September in Pittsburg, USA. Later on Thursday evening, Kostas Karamanlis will address the media at 1900 hours.

    [04] Debates Scheduled for Monday and Tuesday

    A bipartisan committee reached an agreement on the debate of the six political leaders and the âduelâ between Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and his challenger opposition leader George Papandreou. The six-party debate will take place on Monday 21 September at 2000 hours at the premises of the Greek National Broadcaster (ERT). The debate between Kostas Karamanlis and George Papandreou was scheduled for Tuesday 22 September.

    The spokesmen of the two mainstream political parties, Evangelos Antonaros of ND (New Democracy) and Giorgos Papakonstantinou of PASOK (Panhellenic Socialist Movement) are meeting to iron out the details of the debate between the two leaders.
